Sen. Tim Scott says ‘major announcement’ set for May 22 as he explores White House run

GOP Sen. Tim Scott hinted he’ll make a “major announcement” next month as he inches closer to potentially going forward with an official run for the White House in 2024.

Scott, representing South Carolina since 2013, said he would reveal his decision about running for president during a May 22 event.

Scott is one of several GOP contenders that are eying the Oval Office in hopes of preventing a second term for Democratic President Joe Biden.

“It is time to make the final step,” Scott said in front of supporters at a town hall in downtown Charleston Sunday, adding. “We will have a major announcement.”

Scott, 57, would be one of a handful of declared candidates if he formally enters the race.

Yep, love the sarcasm.

Some people here are deeply troubled, that anyone would run against Trump in the primaries.

He’s welcome to run but he will just waste a bunch of money if he does. I wonder what makes him even think he is presidential timber? I mean, I’m glad we have a black guy in the Senate but who does he think will be his base? Jeb voters? All 37 of them?

Yeah, it’s a VP race. Kari Lake holds the key cards at present.

Some people run for president just to gain publicity and public awareness. Some run to become well knows, so they are in the mix of potential VP running mates.

Some run for president because they have an ego.

Point being, people running for president know they face long odds.

If people did some honest unbiased assessment of their chances of being elected, very few would ever run for president.

Yes, or auditioning for a cabinet position as the others are doing.

Trump will experience a Goldwater-level shellacking in 2024 if he is the nominee.

BTW any candidate could crush the rest.. if he came out strongly AGAINST the Woke non sense in our schools and sports, defunding the police, allowing criminals who commit felons to walk, open borders, buying our Gas and oil from tyrants.

Not just against but tell us how the will fix things. Cause there is a LOT to fix.

Agree. Let him and anyone else run. I never understood why people get so upset over candidates announcing that they are seeking the nomination. Some candidates clearly aren’t going to win but they won’t gain traction to begin with. And some may surprise everyone - that happens a lot of times and is a good thing. Trump definitely surprised people in 2016 by knocking out Jeb Bush (thankfully). If Trump or DeSantis flame out in 2024, then its better we know now.
