We were stationed in Hawaii in the early 80’s and I worked with Hawaiians. They do not like people from the mainland. If you stay in a hotel they treat you real nice (tips) but they really despise you.

I had several chances to go back to Hawaii on TDY as a civilian but turned it down each time. I have no respect for them.

Yes, and the schools were run by Japanese teachers and the classrooms were all decorated with Japanese signs and banners.

Since they don’t want to be part of America, let’s grant their wish.

And “Kill Haole Day” was a real thing back then.

The Polynesians paddled up to Hawaii around 500 AD. As most native cultures have no written history there is no record of who they found living there. I assume that all of the original inhabitants of Hawaii were either killed off or enslaved by the Polynesian colonists. Let’s due an investigation and give Hawaii back to the original people living there and not these slave holding, murderous Polynesian conquistadors

Lots of Hollywood celebrities have huge mansions on Maui, be a shame if anything happened to them.

Could have been worse. Hawaii could have been taken over by Japan.

We couldn’t those areas have remained American possessions are territories longer term?

Because the idea of "long term territories" was a repugnent concept to thinking people then as it should be to thinking people now.

Becoming a territory was the first step toward becoming a state.

But nobody ever talks about statehood for Guam , the Virgin Islands, American Samoa or other offshore American possessions.

Yeah, they do.

Since they are smaller there is less talk but there is talk.

Judging by the filthy politicians they elect to torment us normal people, they are about as stupid as NY,NJ,IL,MA etc.

(Yes, I know...Tulsi. But at least she is easy on the eyes and all states have outliers like that.)
