So... How many Hawaiians wish to separate from the United States?
The article makes it sound as if a majority do.
I bet the number who wish to separate is very small.
To: artichokegrower
Usual leftist whining. The Hawaiians should think about the fact that the realistic alternative was not independence for Hawaii but its seizure as a colony by France, Germany, or worst of all, Japan. Given the comparatively large number of Americans already there, the annexation changed little except for the removal of the Hawaiian government and installation of an American naval base.

If they did separate, Hawaii would be under Chinese control in a microsecond.

We took Hawaii by force 16 January 1893. There was no cause for the taking or the use of force. Business men goaded State Department personnel into using the Marines to take the Islands.

Hi.
‘Hawaii wasn’t a State when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.”
I know, my point was if the U. S. didn’t have assets there, or a protectorate agreement at the time Japan would have owned them.

Depending upon the party and administration in power. Right?
For example, what is your opinion when/if the Chicoms invade Formosa?

But, polls of all Hawaiians indicate no. We’re happy being part of U.S. https://www.grassrootinstitute.org/2014/06/star-advertiser-poll-indicates-a-lack-of-enthusiasm-for-a-native-hawaiian-nation/
The people of Hawaii are mostly Asian or European or a mix. Less than 10 percent of Hawaii are Native Hawaiians.
I constantly amazes me how too many people on this site
1) Read a comment by a random wacko and generalize that it reflects the views of a whole group/region 2) Are willing to up and give up U.S territory because of 1) above. Hawaii and Puerto Rico are integral parts of this nation and the overwhelming number of citizens agree. Those who want to split and weaken this nation can you know what to themselves.

The Peoples Republik of Hawaii would be in chicom hands within a week. Not that the politics would be any different (i.e. Mazie Hirono).

To become a state, THE POPULACE HAS TO VOTE.
Then Congress has to vote.
I don’t buy “the bamboozlement” argument.

Well to use their terms, I believe the American occupation is a far more palatable one, than if they were placed under a Japanese occupation way back when.

My dad was assigned a 2 year billet in Honolulu (CINCPACFLT). We packed up our belongings from the house in Imperial Beach, CA and took a train and bus to San Francisco. From there, we boarded a US Navy ship and sailed to Honolulu. I had my 5th birthday on the ship. We stayed in a hotel in Waikiki for a couple weeks awaiting officer's quarters. Home would be 1156 Cakon St. Walking distance to Pearl Harbor Elementary where my kindergarten teacher was Mrs Okuna (chinese) and 1st grade teacher Mrs Onaga (japanese). The school sponsored a vaccine night in the cafeteria where everyone in my family received the polio vaccine on a sugar cube (contaminated with SV40). Evening amusements included running through the fog created by the mosquito fogging trucks. We did take a drive around the island to see the "blow hole". On another evening, dinner at the officer's club with entertainment provided by the "Smothers Brothers". I wouldn't hear of them again until they landed a TV show. We left Honolulu on a Boeing 707 that landed at San Diego Lindbergh Field. The old control tower on Pacific Highway was still in use at the time.
I've never been back. My middle son and sister have been there for vacations.

You are welcome to leave the US, if you hate it so much. I know you fought for it, so why would you want to leave it?

States are sovereign and have the right to unilaterally secede. As the Declaration of Independence says, Government derives its legitimacy from the Consent of the Governed.
If Hawaii wants to go, let ‘em go. I’ll bid Aloha to their two leftist Senators and will be happy to see a few less votes in the electoral college for Democrats.
