OK David Brooks - here's the problem with this part of your article: at it's core it's wrong and it's a big part of the problem. Why? Because mother nature doesn't 'work' that way. Two intelligent grown-ups can have children and pour money and the 'best of everything into them' but reality is that there's a regression to the mean. That means that "Ronnie" Reagan unlikely to be as smart or capable as his father.. It means the best private schools in DC created Hunter Biden and his nutty sister. And John Kerry's corrupt son in law and Al Gore... It means the honest path to leadership has been cut off from the best and most capable and handed to 'the privileged' and not to the intellectually privileged or the Merit privileged - it means power goes to 'the manor born' bimbos and pretentious 'men' of parents who want to pretend their kids are as smart as they are... the 'elite' flaw that's bringing down the country.
And how does that play out in reality?
It means there are still 'Thomas Jefferson's and Abe Lincolns being born - but they're working in a library or starting a small company. Legendary journalists in today's culture are loan officers in local banks or writing ads for car shops and grocery stores. The best jobs go to the 'very average' offspring of the 'elties' with pull and to the groups that prop up the power of 'elites'.
So, who's 'allowed' to hold office? White liberal 'elties' and their 'pets' - the 'pets' who prop them us... the folks democrats fund with every penny they can spare from themselves... Lucky for us their 'pets' are catching on to the fact their communities are becoming hellholes under the phony 'kindness' of the self serving elites...

The pathetic thing about Brooks is he thinks the “Educated” are all liberals. Elon Musk went to MIT. My guess is that while 90% of the faculty at Ivy schools are leftists, maybe 60% of the graduates are. And in my experience the leftists are struggling poor wanna-be writers, beat poets, some already dead of overdoses even though they went to St. Paul’s and Williams. The VC guys and investment bankers would vote for Trump because they know what it takes to actually build something instead of tear it down like get-out-of-jail freaks in SF NYC and Larry Krasner’s Pilly nightmare. Brooks is in a bubble and can’t even see it. The Trump supporter is not going to waste time reading “white fragility”. They end up with more money and a better life by not sucking up to David Brooks.
