I agree with this.

Nobdysfool? This seems to comport with your two posts How To Be Born Again #244 and How To Be Born Again #444

Do you agree?

He could say to Joshua, in Joshua 6:2, "I have given into thine hand Jericho," because to Him it was a present reality, though to Joshua it was future.

If I say to you, "I have given you your Christmas present," then you already have it. In fact, it has "happened." The happening transpired in the past. The fact of the "happening" is a done deed for the present.

God was speaking here of a future event. He's saying that it is already done even though it is a future thing. It is a completed act in the present, even though for Joshua it was yet future.

That's fascinating.

1 Samuel 15:29 says, "And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent." So when the Bible says that God did repent (Ex. 32:14, Jonah 3:10) it is not teaching that God did not know what was going to happen, and changed his mind because he had made a mistake. He had already told us in Ezekiel 33:8-18 that when the wicked changed, God would change, relative to him. God did not change in himself, or in his essence, nature or purpose.

That sounds a lot like something I've been saying in another thread!

God did not change in himself, or in his essence, nature or purpose.

Those are nearly your precise words.

That's fascinating.

Indeed. When I think about it I'm reminded of Isaiah 40:12-14.

That's fascinating.

Yes.

Now apply that to Revelation.

14 Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge or showed him the path of understanding?

I was thinking more about 13:

Who has understood the mind of the LORD, or instructed him as his counselor?

It's one of my favorite verses. As a kid I thought that verse was in Romans 11. Well, it is, but Paul is quoting Isaiah, but hey, as a kid... The last three verses in Romans 11, 33-36 It's still one of my favorite passages:

Doxology

33Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and[1] knowledge of God!
       How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
34"Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?"[2]
35"Who has ever given to God,
       that God should repay him?"[3]
36For from him and through him and to him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.

Footnotes

  1. 11:33 Or riches and the wisdom and the
  2. 11:34 Isaiah 40:13
  3. 11:35 Job 41:11

It would be nice for Calvinists to get off the TULIP discussions once in awhile. Look, there are other areas of Scripture that are truly fascinating.
Now, AW Pink was a Calvinist I could enjoy. Visit the Pink Archive and you WON'T find a million sermons on predestination or God's foreknowledge. He's not ALWAYS waging war against the Arminians?
Ever discuss types? OT prophesies?
Ever enjoy the expositon of a whole chapter of Scripture without discussing predestination or foreknowledge.
Geeeeesh!!!!

Verse 13 is what I was thinking when you said: I think we just don't understand yet how it all fits together.

Good verse and you are correct. It ties in directly with our limited understanding.

In 14 I liked "who taught Him knowledge?"

He's always been ALL-KNOWING.
