They didn’t overlook it, they found him not guilty. Since he was found not guilty. When that happens you don’t go to jail, thus you don’t need your sentence commuted. If the many legal experts who protest the sentence over financial crimes was unjust, then commutation of your sentence is one of the only options left.

The government withdrew the immigration case after Rubashkin was convicted on fraud charges, which carried a heavier sentence...The immigration charges were dismissed “without prejudice,” which means the DOJ can still prosecute Rubashkin.

My guess his acquittal on state charges of employing illegals, including children, played some part in the decision not to prosecute as well. But they can recharge him now if they like.

One of the ironies of this is that the new owner of the plant, apparently not able to find enough local workers, employs Somali. Legally, since it’s easier for them to get here legally. There’s probably a need for some sort of guest worker program.

The allegation (which I believe based on personal knowledge) was that Rubashkin or people acting in his behalf were selling US worker visas in foreign countries.

Once the visa-holder arrived, they didn’t work for the meat plant but moved elsewhere. The meat plant then hired illegals in their place.

Probably the fraud conviction instead was to help cover a widespread illegal practice that big business political donors like.

Then the prosecutors should have charged him with that. Then he could be imprisoned for that, if convicted. The fraud conviction had nothing to do with immigration, rather money laundering, transferring funds from an account serving as collateral for a bank loan to another account, falsely identifying them as accounts receivable. He claimed no knowledge of the companies involvement employing illegals. I’ve not a clue if he’s telling the truth, but the state jury on immigration charges did and acquitted him. I believe several lower level employees were convicted on immigration charges.

Well, that's a sign that he needs to increase his wages.

Somewhere in North Carolina Bernie Madoff’s ears just pricked up.

Yes. Lower level employees took the immigration rap.

Not much that went on in Postville doesn’t go on at Tyson and Cargill meat operations. The feds weren’t going to bring down that house of cards. That makes it true that Rubashkin was unfairly singled out and treated more harshly.

Prosecutors have to be reined in.

They have way too much immunity for any wrongdoing.

Farewell party as I’m sure Rubashkin is off to Israel and never returning to the United States.

Barukh HaShem! Now this means something, and it was a long time coming!

I know of a few "palaeo" FReepers who are probably having buyer's remorse on Trump.

"I know of a few 'palaeo' FReepers who are probably having buyer's remorse on Trump."

Thanks, ZC! Yes, they're probably crying behind the scenes again with their Muslim terrorist and Eurabian friends. Those anti-American lefties are already menstruating their misery in their childish propaganda about our nuclear forces buildup and positioning for the fun against their new Axis (e.g., the mouth of Patricus Buchanus).

President Trump announced our recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital. 128 member states of the U.N. voted in favor of a resolution to make our President's decision "null and void."

Here are the nations that voted in our favor and against the neo-Nazi U.N. resolution: Guatemala, Honduras, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and Togo. 35 chicken abstained. Germany voted against the existence of Israel this time (same resolution). I knew it! See? They're Nazis!

Looks like we'll be seeing more Guatemalans and Hondurans. They deserve a break today. Let the Nazis and their Chief with the pointy hat chew on that.

Long ago, I worked in a meat factory in an Italian-Irish-American town once while in school. It was minimum wage, and they wouldn't even send employees with broken bones to a doctor. That syphilitic community was dishonest and evil in every way, like Sodom. Lying, projecting hypocrites...IRA-supporting gangsters. They only complain about the plant that was run by a Jewish man and jump on him along with PETA and the rest of their friends on the left.

They earned the label. They can wear it until they dissolve after making their last mistake (Prophets).

"Once the visa-holder arrived, they didn’t work for the meat plant but moved elsewhere. The meat plant then hired illegals in their place."

That's interesting. Some of the lifelong residents of Postville (objective bystanders) said that eastern Europeans also worked in the plant before moving away for other jobs.

The Jewish presence in Newport, R.I., dated to the arrival of fifteen Sephardic Jewish families in 1658. In 1677 they bought land for a burial ground. George Washington wrote a letter to their "Congregation" in 1790.

Granted, much has changed since 1790. Back then, Presbyterians were also old-fashioned in their way.

It was amazing to watch on Twitter last night, until Twitter started hiding all the posts and/or marking them as “sensitive!”

But Twitter is a great place to get breaking news when it happens. I use it a lot in my work because the media types love it.
