The editorial board of the New York Times declared it had identified the source of The Catholic Churchs Unholy Stain. It names pedophilia and asks: How have so many pedophiles been allowed into the priesthood?
The question was purely rhetorical because the board had an answer ready. It cited the usual grounds: the all-male priesthood and the celibacy imposed on Catholic priests; the elitism, careerism and clericalism of the church hierarchy; the lack of transparency or accountability among bishops. Most damning is the power a man of God has over a child.
Every parent knows instinctively that sexual abuse of the young and vulnerable is an evil that cries out for punishment, swift and severe. Anything less mocks the harm done by abusive priests. Equally inadequateand blameworthyare expressions of sympathy for the abused that disguise the elephant in the rectory. The first responsibility is to call things by their right name.
Ignoring the Issue Will Prevent Addressing It
To casual readers, duly angered, the Times charge sounds about right. More thoughtful ones, however, will hesitate over the word pedophilia. With few exceptions, sexual abuse by priests has been visited overwhelmingly upon pubescent boys, and young men, most often teenagers. This is pederasty, not pedophilia. And pederasty is endemic to gay culture. (For an unsparing indictment of that culture by a gay man, read Jason Hills Loveless, Narcissistic Sex Addicts in The Federalist.)
Without intending to, the Times studied determination to ignore homosexual predation as the culprit parallels the Catholic Churchs dilemma. How is the hierarchy to work at restoring trust, instituting accountability, and eradicating the cancer of sexual abuse without acknowledging a subject inoculated from judgment by reigning opinion?

When I was a catholic, I had an extremely foul mouth, and I was proud of it. Most of my classmates were too.
Yes...and?
Not sure Roman Catholics will have much sympathy for you as you do for them!
Lutheran with a good deal of Catholic influence (and sympathy).
Is that perhaps because Roman Catholicism doesn't view profanity as a "mortal sin"?
Ive had no problems. Reasoned discussions here and disagreements too, friends in real life, but no problems.
Oh, and to your direct reply of and..?
The point was you assumed I am Catholic from your previous posting. Never have been.
So, yes, dammit, like Patton I have an occasional foul mouth even though Im a Protestant.
It's apparently more than "occasional".
Many brave people here have a solution but have any personally told a homo to repent and turn to God?

Yes, and he screamed in my face, tried to get me fired from my job, and did some very nasty things to my reputation behind my back.
Go ahead, ask me. I am an Evangelical Christian and I don't believe - and have never said - Catholics are going straight to hell, so, no I don't believe you! Is your obvious disdain for non-Catholic Christians based on your actual experience or do you just believe the anti-Protestant rhetoric of RC apologists?
Also, you seem to have some serious heartburn over someone's expression of assurance of salvation that comes from believing in God's promises to us in His word. Why is that? You have revealed before that you were raised in a Protestant church, did you use to have assurance of your salvation and did you have to give up that assurance when you converted to Catholicism?
My Dad said he really enjoyed golfing with the local Catholic priests because he liked hearing all their dirty jokes.
I had someone tell me that NOWHERE in the New Testament was homosexuality ever condemned. I read him Romans chapter 1. He yelled at me saying, "That's the most hateful thing I have ever heard!".
Believe it or not, I am not in the habit of dropping bombs, especially in public. Certainly not the big ones, the slang terms which are not even real words unlike the ones youre picking at.
You should try hanging out at the college cafeteria sometimes. I wont sit in our cafeteria anymore because of the brazenly foul HOSTILE (and that is the key...they are fightinwords) talk coming from these low class collegiate students. And in my day, same college...I and my varied peeps NEVER spoke like this even to each other, much less openly so others can hear.
I think hes being hyperbolic because of the acrimony expressed here.
A review of your posts suggests otherwise.
If you type out the words which requires some thought and possibly a review of what you've typed, I can only imagine the actual use in conversation.
No...he's not the only one to express dismay over the assurance of salvation. Many of the Roman Catholics on these threads have said essentially the same.
They call it the "sin of presumption".
I don't know how long you've been on these threads, but you've missed out on some of the more acrimonious threads.
From what I understand there used to be some real dousies.
To be honest, its been so long since I left the Catholic Church, I just dont recall. I seem to remember, the priests telling us we should avoid serious sin. It seemed like serious sin, was very subjective. I tried to pin our parish priest down on it, but I came away quite confused.
I didnt mind committing venial sins, but I wanted to stop, just this side of a mortal sin. After awhile, I realized I couldnt stop committing mortal sins, even if the concept was a little fuzzy. I guess missing mass on Sunday and eating meat on Friday, were mortal sins, but issues beyond that, including profanity? I just dont know for sure. 😇
Or maybe he is the one being acrimonious?
I am speaking generally here, because only God knows for sure, if people are saved. All we can do, is look at things from the outside. There may be some exceptions here and there, but I would say, generally speaking, if someone has NO assurance of salvation, there might be a better than even chance, that they dont have salvation to begin with, or they just dont have a good grip on scripture. They need to get a GRIP on scripture. Thats all generally speaking, of course. 😁😇
