Speaker Hastert said earlier that they are "going to fight."
So I think this is a very good thing!
He needs to hammer home that HE asked for the full investigation before the Dems make it sound like it was their idea.

Why should he resign? He didn't know about the explicit IMs.
The Dems WANT him to resign, then they will be running around the media outlets trumpeting, "If he wasn't guilty, he wouldn't have resigned!"
Hastert resigning would be STUPID and wrong.
