At this point in time, I don't believe that Hastert should resign. He was shown the emails, which were given to the FBI. The FBI found nothing in them that would warrant an investigation. The parents of the under-age kid who got the emails did not want it made public, and asked only that the emails stop. I heard the leadership told Foley to stop sending them and he did. The Instant Messages were between two adults, and according to all reports, Hastert wasn't even aware they existed until ABC published them. So unless there's some amazing revelation that tells me Hastert was derelict in his duties as Speaker, I'll err on the side of fairness for the time being.

In this case, for Hastert to resign would not be the right thing. It would be stupid. He and the rest of the Republican bedwetters need to come out with both barrels blazing--referring again and again to the past Democrat problems with this very issue and comparing how Republicans react (resignation) to how Democrats react (do nothing, call the perp the "conscience" of the party years hence).
