I wonder what it is going to be about... :)
Hopefully this will do more good than harm. It would be nice. Sigh.
If he announces he's going into rehab, I'm outta here.
Maybe he'll present some of the mounting evidence that this bidness is all about ABC News laying down a pre-election slime trail for the Democrats.
Time to dust off the old copy of "Happy Sails To You."
Time for a new Speaker!
Good.
Now if anyone from hastert's office is lurking, it's time to reveal the Democart's involved and the fact they have a "List" circulating that they hope will prove Christians are "homophobic drooling bigots" so they'll stay home and not vote.

I'd like to see Hastert publically ask the Democrats what they are hiding.
Pelosi and Emannuel refuse to take a polygraph test over the Foley mess.

Pelosi has also refused to make a sworn affidavit

I will be watching and I hope he lets the democrats have it..
Hope he turns the tables. Do you really want the FBI monitoring instant messages without a warrant? You can't get a warrant because someone asks a boy for his picture.
He is a graduate of the Illinois political machine that produced Rostenkowski, Daley, and Ryan.
The guy knows how to play the game, trust me, this is a counteroffensive here.
BUT--he won't resign, because he didn't do anything wrong--sorry, those e-mails were creepy but certainly not actionable.
On the other hand, if Hastert is good and pissed about this situation, as he should be, and comes out fighting the way George Allen SHOULD have when HE was smeared, this could be what completely demolishes the Dems' hopes this year.
"I want you to get mad! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot - I don't want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad. [shouting] You've got to say, 'I'm a HUMAN BEING, Goddamnit! My life has VALUE!' So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell,[shouting]'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!' I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it:[screaming at the top of his lungs] "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!" -- Network by Paddy Chayefsky

"My friends, although the young man and his parents made a request for complete privacy, I regret to say, the due respect for that reasonable request has been violated."

Lard butt needs to put down the twinkie and resign to help alleviate the situation.
The MSNBC poll shows we are in deep trouble because of this; we may lose control of Congress. Voters are going to remember this unless something comes along that changes their minds.
Would Hastert resigning send the Dems into glee? Yes. But, I think the harm done by resigning would be less than that of staying in power.
And this is all so they can run around delivering papers from office to office?
See here (pdf) for more information.
A reference to an earmark in 1999 for the House Page Dorm is here. $3.7 million? For what?
The issue here to me is why is there is even a page program in the first place? It seems to be another large waste of money. And I bet that the only way to get the jobs is for the person to have political connections. It would be interesting to see how many past pages were family members of someone in Congress or in some way connected to Congress.
There is a group that has as it's members page alumni, or at least there was a group, they have taken their web site offline. I bet there was some interesting stuff on sites like this one or this one before they went dark. Why would web sites for US Congress page alumni all seem to go dark suddenly? Hmm....
I'm betting this Foley thing is going to end up like the banking scandal in Congress some years back. There is a lot more here than meets the eye. I have the feeling that some ex-page somewhere is going to get rich writing a book.
In a press conference scheduled for noon CT in Illinois, House Speaker Dennis Hastert plans to accept some measure of responsibility for failing to discover Rep. Mark Foley's misconduct with pages, a House official said this morning. " He is taking responsibility because the buck stops with him," the official said.
Hastert won't resign "because that would be giving into the Democrat partys best wish," the official said.
He is expected to make several announcements, including one about revisions to the page program.
