A flamboyant archeologist known worldwide for his trademark Indiana Jones hat believes he has identified the site where Cleopatra is buried.

Now, with a team of 12 archeologists and 70 excavators, Zahi Hawass, 60, the head of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, has begun the search for her tomb.

In addition, after a breakthrough two weeks ago, Hawass hopes to find Cleopatra's lover, the Roman general Mark Antony, sharing her last resting place at the site of a temple, the Taposiris Magna, 28 miles west of Alexandria.

I thought Cleopatra and Antony’s bodies were taken to Rome for public display?

She was laid to rest beside Anthony in Egypt by Octavian’s people. To take them back to Rome would have been a time consuming and stinky process.

If her tomb is found, it will be interesting to see if there are any other family members with her...like her son Caesarion. I hadn’t realized until researching him today that he was a teenager when he was killed by Octavian. For some reason I thought he was a small child. I guess I got that misinterpretation from the movie with Burton and Taylor.

That was also the impression given by the HBO series "Rome", which portrayed Ptolemy XV "Caesarion" as a young boy at the time of Cleopatra's death - and the bastard of a Roman soldier, to boot. Since he could have been considered a threat to Octavian's claim as Caesar's heir, I'd guess he was not given a spot in his mother's tomb.

The murder of Ceasarion was the crime of the century.

An Egyptian with a hat doesn’t make an Indy... unless he can prove that he defeated at least one Nazi division, freed Indian kids and survived a nuclear blast in a fridge.
