My wife just got back from Wal-Mart. Apparently there was a big brouhaha over the removal of a couple Christmas trees that were on display inside the store. At the checkout, the cashiered told my wife this story after wishing her a "Merry Christmas" and my wife responding likewise and praising the clerk for using the phrase "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays". The clerk said that a few people had complained about the display of Christmas trees in the store. The manager had them removed. The Wal-Mart employees were furious that a couple of people could determine that Christmas trees were offensive in some way and the rest of the people had to give in to this. The General manager of the store came down to the floor and asked the employees what they thought about it. They overwhelmingly wanted the trees put back on display. The manager agreed, and the trees were returned to their original location.
My local WalMart tried something similar but were actually stopped by patrons while taking down the tree. Apparently threats of a WalMart boycott were enough to keep them up.
I’m a Target shopper, personally.
YAAY! Merry Christmas to WalMart!
The manager had the TREES removed not the complainers.
Also, this Wal-Mart is located in Ithaca, NY. Liberal Mecca.
Target...don’t they prohibit the Salvation Army from putting their Santas and kettles out front?

Hopefully the same attitude by customers will keep those proposed Janetalia propaganda videos out of Wal-Mart also.
City of Evil ping.
WASHINGTON — Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano today announced the expansion of the Departments national If You See Something, Say Something campaign to hundreds of Walmart stores across the countrylaunching a new partnership between DHS and Walmart to help the American public play an active role in ensuring the safety and security of our nation.

Must be a local issue, because I threw $$$$ in the kettle at our nearby Target this year.
If enough people put pressure on them to get rid of the “Big Sis, spy on thy neighbor” DHS messages would they remove them too?
What happened then?
Well, in Bentonville they say
That the GrinchMart’s small heart
Grew three sizes that day!
Up here in Canada I noticed Wal-Mart used ‘Christmas’ in some of their TV commercials, rather than the bland norm of ‘Holidays’, so more props for Wal-Mart.
Been boycotting Chinamart for years after seeing them drive too many small local businesses out of business.
No Hanukkah gift cards. They were always there before.

Not sure. Do they?
WalMart has bell ringers from Salvation Army. I donated yesterday at one.

Well in my area, where a Walmart pops up, tons of small businesses open around them.
In fact, right here in depressed MI, the only plazas that are full are the ones right near Walmarts. There is a plaza right near my husband’s job. When we moved here, it was a Kmart with an empty strip mall in the same parking lot. Now, a 24 hour Walmart moved in and the whole strip is filled with specialty shops. Even the restaurants in the front are booming.
The “small business disaster” of Walmart is a myth, at least here in MI.
Same in my hometown. Nobody went out of business because of Walmart - unless they were already on the ropes and were surviving simply because they were the only thing in town. More businesses popped up around Walmart and all are still going, or if they didn't make it, new ones popped up in the same location.
I was more concerned about Lowes and Home Depot wiping out our local lumber yards and hardware stores, but there is only one who went out of business (more due to downfall of the housing market - as they were a primary supplier to builders - than competition from the boxes).
The local plumbing and electric guys in my hometown stepped up the customer service (which was already outstanding), and they are still open. One guy even offered to help me ensure my sprinkler system worked properly on his own time once I got it set up.
