California's largest public utility provider could face murder or manslaughter charges if it were found responsible for causing the state's recent deadly wildfires, according to court documents filed by the state attorney general.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co., or PG&E, could potentially face a range of criminal offenses if any of the wildfires broke out as a result of the utility failing to properly operate and maintain power lines, per an amicus brief filed in US District Court Friday by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra.

PG&E, which provides electricity to about 16 million Californians, has been under scrutiny for how it maintains its infrastructure amid questions about what caused the Camp Fire -- the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the state's history.

DNC should face charges:

Under Senate Bill 1028, San Diego Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison and Pacific Gas & Electric were supposed to prepare annual wildfire mitigation plans for reducing fire threats and identify who specifically would be responsible for implementing them.

The bill, signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown in September 2016, also called on the California Public Utilities Commission to review the filings every year, comment on the material and audit the companies to make sure the plans were being followed.

More than two years after the legislation was enacted, state regulators have yet to issue directives for the utilities to write the plans, let alone discuss or examine them for compliance — although SDG&E says its own fire plans comply with the law.

California is such a complicated state. I lived there all my life, and I never knew PG&E was responsible for regulating forest management or house zoning in wooden areas within the state.

Shut it down.
Let them sit in the dark.
Then they will be safe from electrical fires.

The real question is what’s motivating Becerra here? Hard to believe it has anything to do with seeking justice.

That’s the beauty of it. Sooner or later everything is illegal but you can’t enforce all of it. So you pick and choose which laws to enforce based on the donations of parties interested.

Uhhhhh how can a company be guilty of murder? The officers perhaps, but everyone in the company? Stupid. Sensible people should leave that godforsaken state.

Forest Service can only do what the politicians let them do. The politicians do what the enviro-nazis tell them to do.

How do you imprison a utility?

Who will keep the lights on while PSE&G is in prison?

This is probably just to placate the masses.

I really doubt any real action will be taken against PG&E.
