Exactly. Work on those crab boats in Alaska is hard and dangerous, but they seem to have no problem finding takers.

Public schools and emergency rooms. What else do the farmers want to pass on to the public?

Many dairy farms in Wisconsin employ Americans and Russians (on work visas), few employ Hispanics.

One of the arguments to keep slavery was because no one else would do the ag work. Hmm. Here the Democrats are again with the same arguments for the same reason.

What happens when you have slave workers is that you do not automate/innovate. Post civil war saw an amazing amount of agri innovation and now we produce much more food per acre.

Dems just really like slavery.

A reworked Brassaro program would be ok. Just make sure they’re gone at Christmastime. The locals need to know how to survive without them.

Maybe the dairy industry ought to be looking for innovation.

How important is THAT statement!

Mechanization of cotton harvesting was delayed and delayed...very slow in coming. First off (and true) getting the process to an acceptable performance level took a long time because the action of getting the boll off the plant was kind of complicated.

But the biggest hindrance of getting to mechanization was the availability of cheap labor. And that would be black AND white.

Europe has it all over us with respect to machinery innovation probably because of the high cost of labor and its availability. Don't know, but from what I've see of their cool harvesting equipment, I'll bet some dandy innovations have been adopted in the dairy end.

The distribution of government cheese was claimed to not have an adverse effect on commercially available cheeses, as the government was required to purchase dairy products like cheese to keep the commercial companies afloat. The government could then sell or give the cheese away to foreign countries. At the time of Ronald Reagan's signing of the 1981 farm bill, the cheese stockpile equaled to more than 2 pounds (1 kg) of cheese for each person living in the United States.[6] Government cheese was frequently moldy.[1] Those who received the cheese did not lose any food stamps and were not required to trade their food stamps in for the cheese.

I quit reading where they said farming has been on the decline since 1950. Maybe in third world countries like what used to be productive Rhodesia and other marxist wonders.

My state’s land is primarily agriculture. I’ve noticed more huge grain and farming facilities the last few years than in the past 4 decades. Huge machinery and outstanding yields. Fewer people doing the work thanks to technology.

If the California farmers lost their illegals, I bet someone would come up with the machinery to replace them, which would improve productivity and profits.

“It Cornell, in Ithaca, Libtard mecca.”

I would be more interested to see the study on this from Texas A&M.

It seems there is a greater need for innovation in this industry rather than 8K tvs that roll up into a box.

Don’t tell me there aren’t Americans who won’t do this work if you paid them well.

What about older workers? We hired a couple of men to open up our kitchen and they were in their mid 40s and did a great job and they came in low bidder out of five estimates. We had an app’t with one person to provide an estimate and they didn’t even show up.

They don’t seem to have such problems in the professional fields; which circles back to the “pay them enough” issue.

Increase labor costs, and they will invest in automation.

If they can afford to...

Not all businesses have that kind of capital.
