PITTSFIELD (WGME) -- Senator Susan Collins says she will vote against Judge Amy Coney-Barrett being elected to the Supreme Court.
Sen. Collins releases statement on Supreme Court Vacancy "It's not a comment on her, Collins said. It is a comment on the process of rushing through a nomination in such a short time before a presidential election."
Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski also said she will be a no vote for the same reason.
To block the confirmation, two more senators would have to vote against Coney-Barrett, but Republicans have said they have the votes.
Desperation. She’s trying to save her disastrous re-election campaign.
This move will lose her far more republican votes then democrat gains.
Flipping off your base is not a winning campaign strategy.
Considering she was just confirmed by the Senate for her current seat in 2017, how much time do they need now? /half rhetorical
Vote Collins. Vote straight ted.
We must maintain senate.
We must get house, to remove san fran nan.
We can sort our rinos later.
Hold your nose or whatever you need to do, but this election is too important.
Right.
Vote straight RED.
I hope the bitch loses her senate race. After all, what difference is there between her and a dem?
You hit the nail on the head. If she wants to “comment” verbally, ... fine. But voting “no” when she admits the candidate is qualified is wrong. All of the democrats will vote “no” knowing the candidate is fully, exceedingly qualified.
I have to cut her a little slack. She did come out in favor of Brett Kavanah when his confirmation was looking dicey and she took a lot of grief for it. Lisa Murky on the other hand is just a royal pain.
No.
I don’t know how much of a Republican base she really has. I think a lot of liberal Democrats and Independents have kept her in office for years. She may be trying to please them.
Well in that case, Susan, you should just abstain.
Half the state gave Trump half of Maine’s electors. But the other elector went for Hillary, as I understand. But as a Senator, she is elected by the whole state, and the rural vote is outweighed by the urban vote in Bangor, et al. She knows her state. She’s from old money aristocracy going back to 1850, and I think she consistently gets the Bangor vote. How many terms has she served already? Murkowsky has a similar formula with Anchorage voters. Oregon and Washington work the same way. Only Maine gives you the illusion that, just because half the state gets its own elector, it has greater clout in a statewide contest, and it does not.
And tell her its not Justice Ginsburgs seat any more than it is the seat of her predecessor, Byron White, who dissented in Rowe v. Wade.
I was hearing rumors that Paul LePage may run against Gov. Mills. Who knows, we may need him to run in one of the Senate seats
Why doesnt she shut up her mouth until she is called on? Because she wants on tv, her name in headlines and to be able to whine.
I think you’re right. I don’t understand why people are being so tough on her. The point is to get to 50+Pence, with the lowest possible cost... if Sen. Collins thinks it’s to her advantage to vote no, and if Cocaine Mitch can spare her vote, then it’s foolish to do otherwise.
Hope she loses...tired of all these useless RINOS...Trump needs new senate leadership..the Turtle is as corrupt as Biden..
As much as I hate to see those 2 seat lost to the Dims, I pray that both lose their senate seats. What difference could it make, 2 RINO’s out to pasture.
Pray the Lord removes the scales from their eyes.
