Joe Biden: Government Will Pay ‘Entire Cost’ of Rebuilding Baltimore Bridge

President Joe Biden said the government would pay the “entire cost” of rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, after a cargo ship hit the bridge after losing power early Tuesday morning.

“It’s my intention that we will pay for the entire cost of reconstructing that bridge. I expect the Congress to support my effort,” Biden said in a White House press conference. “It’s gonna take some time. And the people of Baltimore can count on us, though, to stick with that every step of the way until the port is reopened and the bridge is rebuilt. We’re not leaving until this job is done.”

In an amazing coincidence, Humper Biden is CEO of a construction company.

Yeesh!

There is much that I have little knowledge in grasshopper, however satire and sarcasm is applied where appropriate. This qualifies.

I’ll wager the bridge was part of the Federal Highway system and the feds would have paid for it anyway.

They can claim the damages from the insurance company to the extent of its policy limits, and the shipping company if they prove fault for any damages above the policy limits, assuming the policy limits are tendered for settlement.

They may also sue the designers of the bridge if the statute of limitations has not run, and if there was some aspect of negligence in the design.

They may also sue the inspectors, if they were inadequate and not up to industry standards.

Liability for anyone depends on the proof, and on the absence of a terrorist act that caused the damage.

Biden is promising what would likely happen anyway.

Biden likes to use “pay” to mean “incur punishment,” like the Border Patrol agents falsely accused of whipping border crashers.

I presume savvy conservatives in Congress will raise these points. Do we know what country this ship was registered as, and whether they had insurance?

Except the Park Service does not OWN the Bridge. The City of Baltimore and MD DOT owns/owned the bridge which is part of the Federal Interstate System as a spur highway. So, no- the bridge named for the writer of the US National Anthem, will not have its name changed. The opposition, even in Baltimore would be huge.

There should be some Names at Lloyd’s of London sweating bullets right now there probably are.

I wonder if this event was big enough that they rang the Lutine bell? It probably was.

Government paying to get it fixed and then pursueing the company for reimbursement makes sense to me.

Ideally that would be the way to go as the matter could easily be tied up in court for years. But there's no guarantee that the government would actually even attempt to collect, once the deals are made, and the bribes are paid.

Well this isn’t Ohio, so I guess it won’t take a year for Biden to get there...

President Trump would have the bridge built within 3 years, and the government would not pay for it.

Lloyds of Lonfdon would pay for it, the multi billion dollar insurer of the ship Dali.

WHen TRump looks at this tragedy , he sees a hurting America.

When Biden looks at this tragedy, he sees millions of dollars of pork to be handed out in Baltimore on a DEI basis.

Meanwhile, check out the latest codswallop...

The collapsed Baltimore bridge didn't stand a chance against such a huge cargo ship, engineers say

And if Deep State gets its chance, it will replace that piece of crap with another poorly designed piece of crap.

Yes, but Brandon is paying for the whole thong, so he can hand out pork to his “equity” pals in Baltimore.

The insrurers are off scot free, apparently.

Result?

A substandard bridge that will collapse in the first force 2 hurricane.

This coud ba a great cxampaign issue that will get Trump the entire minority vote in Baltimore.

Bridges not fit for purpose are an issue in every state.

And for the same reason.

People are making a mountain out of a mole hill. Of course the gubmint will pay for it, but the government will also collect the insurance.

If you crash your car into a guardrail, streetlight, sign, or cause damage to any other infrastructure wirhin the right of way, you and your insurance are on the hook to pay to repair or replace the damaged property.

Politicians view taxpayers and the government as two completely separate things. Once they get your money, it is then THEIR money to piss away as they want.

I was wondering about who was paying for that fiasco, if anyone. It would seem to me that any tragedy of that sort or the bridge in Baltimore should be carefully looked at as to insurance payments or other means of settlement before the government offers to pay. After all, the government has no money & they should never be so careless as to commit taxpayer funds for just everything. No wonder the gov’t. is broke & in very heavy debt.
