A Florida man turned lizard smuggler pleaded guilty this week in federal court to trafficking live water monitor lizards from the Philippines. Akbar Akram, of Holiday, Florida, near Tampa, admitted to illegally importing more than 20 live water monitor lizards in 2016, according to the plea documents. A woman in Shamong Township, Burlington County, was found living with 44 dead dogs and 130 living dogs in "deplorable" conditions, State Police said. A 61-year-old Reston man is facing several charges stemming from a 2017 incident in which his dog was found deceased at an archery range. Officers responded to the private Northern Virginia Archers Club Range, adjacent to Fountainhead Regional Park, on July 15 of last summer after someone called to report they found a deceased dog that appeared to have been shot with a firearm.
