I normally like to post this 2 minute video from poet Baxter Black on Thanksgiving in an effort to avoid spoiling my mood with political talk. But, I forgot to do it this year.

Photo: NRA MuseumWhat’s even more American than turkey, cranberries and pumpkin pie these days? An Italian gun, that’s what. The only known surviving firearm that crossed the wild Atlantic aboard the good ship Mayflower, settled with the pilgrims at Plymouth Colony and ultimately helped the first colonists not only survive, but prosper. Meet the Mayflower Gun. Affectionately dubbed the Mayflower Gun and thought of as an American icon, the gun is actually an Italian-made wheel-lock carbine. This single-shot musket was originally chambered in .50 caliber rifle, though ages of heavy use have worn away the majority of the rifling. Given...

Ah… Guns. As an American, I have a distinct interest in firearms. After all, what’s the point in having a Right given to you by God if you don’t exercise it? Here, I’d like to share my thoughts on some of my dream weapons; my favorite firearms. No, I’m not talking about a “Phased plasma rifle in the 40-watt range” that the Terminator was looking for. But rather some firearms that I have wanted for some time, but regrettably will probably never purchase. So here’s my dream / wish list. MP-40 Let me start with one of my long time...

Ray Chavez, the oldest U.S. military survivor of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor that plunged the United States into World War II, died Wednesday. He was 106. Chavez, who had been battling pneumonia, died in his sleep in the San Diego suburb of Poway, his daughter, Kathleen Chavez, told The Associated Press. As recently as last May he had traveled to Washington, D.C., where he was honored on Memorial Day by President Donald Trump. The White House tweeted a statement after his death: "We were honored to host him at the White House earlier this year. Thank...

One manufacturer of virtual-reality trainers has already begun including the devices in its simulators. ________________________________________________________________ Inventor Sam Owen shows of the OtoTech, a device that prevents motion sickness by sending subtle vibrations through the inner ear to the brain. _________________________________________________________________ An inventor may have discovered a non-pharmaceutical cure for car sickness that could revolutionize the way people experience everything from travel to the newest virtual-reality headsets. That, in turn, could affect how the military trains, fights, and navigates. Just like civilians, troops get motion-sick. A 2009 study by the Naval Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory found that more than half of...

I'm pretty sure most of you will find things here to like and things here to truly hate. Border Security 1. Allow Army and Marine personnel to take leave of absences of up to 52 weeks duration, with military command approval, to join the Border Patrol and assist in its operations, with a $800/week Border Patrol salary and their military pay and benefit package. 2. Allow the Director of Homeland Security to specifically designate border security areas as shoot on sight/fire as appropriate zones. 3. Denounce [get out from under] the “Convention and Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees”....

In the clip, we see the Avenger, which was hit hard by flak, limping back to the carrier. Once it lands, the rear turret gunner's cockpit is covered up and the aircraft is ceremoniously rolled off the fantail of the ship in a unique burial at sea. You see, Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class Loyce Edward Deen's body was so badly mangled from the anti-aircraft shell that took his life that it couldn't be removed from the torpedo bomber's rear cockpit. Deen was just 23 years old when he died on that fateful mission. The operation he was participating in...

Almost every single person I’ve ever heard of with an AR-15 has been a mass murderer. Based on Twitter sample the rest of them are scarily paranoid. Get on the right side of history . . Wow, Rep. Eric Swalwell and his nukes have really kick-started that conversation on that “common-sense gun control” they always want to have.

FOLLOW THE MONEY: The Pentagon has done what for years seemed impossible — it dispatched more than 1,200 auditors to examine hundreds of thousands of items at over 600 locations to figure out if taxpayer money was being used wisely. And the auditors examined if systems were effective in tracking inventory and ensuring they followed proper security practices. With approximately $2.8 trillion in total assets, accounting for over 70 percent of the U.S. government’s total, the FY 2018 DoD consolidated audit includes over 20 standalone audits. It’s arguably one of the largest and most complex financial statement audits ever undertaken....

It was, of course, Veteran’s Day weekend and NFL teams found various ways to commemorate. The 49ers had a line of men and women who are serving or have served our country in the armed forces. That was cool enough, but Kittle made sure that he honored each and every one of them with a handshake.
