With the state quarters set to end thier run when the Hawaii quarter is minted at the end of 2008, will that be the end of the Washington-head US quarter? What does our treasury have in store for this coin for 2009 and beyond? Well, I dunno, but I'd like to suggest replacing George's bust with that of the father of our Constitution, James Madison. Washington will forever be on the $1 bill (which isn't counterfeited that much so not worthy of redesign) and will thus remain highly visible as our most common script. Thomas Jefferson is on the nickel...

Texas quarter finalist named Coin will feature design by Arlington artist 07/09/2002 By MANYA BRACHEAR / The Dallas Morning News It's not clear whether Gov. Rick Perry flipped a coin to pick a design for Texas' new commemorative quarter. All that matters is that he did. The coin - with a lariat rope around the shape of the state and a lone star in the middle - was designed by artist Daniel Miller of Arlington. The Texas quarter finalist coin. Mr. Perry apparently picked the favorite of the Texas Quarter Dollar Coin Design Committee, which forwarded him several finalists...

For a quarter, the U.S. Mint has bought itself some ill will in Missouri.Five designs Missouri submitted for consideration to grace the state quarter have been redrawn by a mint artist.Radical changes to two of the designs have prompted protests by the artists who created them.To them, the new designs aren't worth a cent, let alone a quarter."I was just like, `Wow,' they really changed it a lot," said Barton Burnell, an Independence resident whose design featured an American Indian on horseback on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River and a pioneer's wagon far below him.The redrawn design removes...

Taking its cue from Jefferson Middle School in Fort Wayne, Ind. legislators from the state of Massachusetts have taken on the issue of redesigning the state's commemorative quarter. The Jefferson Middle school's mascot is a minuteman bearing the same image as that on the state's quarter. In October of 2001 the image inside the main door of the school was repainted to exclude the firearm. Principal Michael Morris, who took over at the school in July, said: "The mural needed to be repainted anyway, and this sends a stronger, better message about patriotism. Everyone loves it." News-Sentinel columnist Kevin Leininger...
