The 13 largest U.S. tire manufacturers are facing a lawsuit from a pair of California commercial fishing organizations that could force the companies to stop using a chemical added to almost every tire because it kills migrating salmon. Also found in footwear, synthetic turf and playground equipment, the rubber preservative 6PPD has been used in tires for 60 years. As tires wear, tiny particles of rubber are left behind on roads and parking lots, breaking down into a byproduct, 6PPD-quinone, that is deadly to salmon, steelhead trout and other aquatic wildlife when rains wash it into rivers. “This is the...

Think of it as a rare instance of cross-aisle consensus or else a sartorial trend gone badly wrong. But it did not go unnoticed when, in a photograph from the Oval Office posted to President Joe Biden’s account this week, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, Senator Mitch McConnell and Representative Hakeem Jeffries were all captured wearing some variant of the dreaded footwear hybrid: the sneaker shoe. Weighing in on Twitter, cult men’s wear commentator Derek Guy (@dieworkwear) called out the footgear as a clear lapse in dignity, if not actual protocol. Why pay a visit to a sitting president...

The thieves can be seen methodically stuffing footwear into plastic bags, then running out and driving away. Dillon says it was over in just minutes. “That’s the car they was in, right there,” Dillon exclaims, pointing to a video screen. “I imagine they broke a glass, they broke a window, gained entry that way and took shoes and whatnot.” Dillon showed the video to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS during a visit to his now-closed KKG Kickz...

Michael Jordan mostly kept himself out of controversy at the height of his fame with the Chicago Bulls during the 1990s but it was a comment about selling sneakers that drew the most ire. When it comes to free speech, Nike seems to have new slogan of “Just Don’t Do It.” This month, stores around the country received new Nike sneakers for the July 4th holiday, featuring an image of the Betsy Ross flag. Former National Football League quarterback Colin Kaepernick reportedly saw the 18th century flag image and was deeply offended. That was all that it took for Nike to order stores to return the shoes and not to sell a single pair. No one is suggesting that we are at risk of moving from rounding up sneakers to rounding up speakers. Nike...

The U.S. sneaker market is valued at $21.2 billion, according to Cowen Equity Research, and while sneakers were left off President Trump’s most recent duty list, many sneaker fans are wondering what effects a new round of tariffs could have on the booming industry. The now 25% tariffs are meant as a punishment to China for the country's refusal to accept the Trump Administration’s latest version of a potential trade deal. Trump also ordered the Office of the United...
