The House approved sending Israel $1 billion for its Iron Dome defense system by an overwhelming 420 to 9 majority after Progressive Rep. Rashida Tlaib was accused of anti-semitism by a member of her own party in a stunning rebuke on the House floor Thursday. The 10-member panel on the House Ethics Committee voted Thursday to drop the $5,000 fine issued to Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), who challenged the report by the Capitol that said she failed to complete a security screening before entering the House building. This is the third time a majority of the evenly split bipartisan panel voted in favor of waiving the metal detector fee since the Jan. 6 protest at the Capitol. In May the Capitol Police issued a report that documented an incident where Foxx set off a metal detector in front of a door to the House chamber....

One of the cocky Democrats responsible for writing the party’s widely-criticized, “unfair” impeachment rules that were voted on this week is reportedly a habitual rule breaker who’s been caught employing his own girlfriend in his congressional office. That Democrat is House Rules Committee vice-chair Alcee Hastings of Florida, who this week joined his fellow equally cocky Democrats in stonewalling efforts by Republicans to install just a modicum of fairness in their otherwise unfair and unjust impeachment rules. The House Ethics Committee revealed on Thursday that it is investigating Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) over whether his relationship with a member of his staff breaks House rules. Hastings has admitted to being in a relationship with his aide, Patricia Williams, who serves as his deputy district director. The committee is now investigating whether Hastings violated House rules with that relationship and if he received any improper gifts from that employee. The House last year adopted a rule preventing members of Congress from having a sexual relationship with a member of their staff. "The Committee is aware of public allegations...

Although Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony may not have been a summer blockbuster, it confirmed the damning conclusions of his report. The investigation revealed substantial evidence that President Trump obstructed justice. And that the Special Counsel did not exonerate him. Trump claimed victory. He seems to think that Mueller’s performance wasn’t enough to trigger an impeachment inquiry. Sorry, Mr. President, the question is no longer whether the House should vote to proceed with a formal impeachment inquiry. The inquiry has already begun.

Is it time for us freepers to call the 'rats local offices to say we don't want it? We know the crazy base is calling.

House Democrats plan vote in response to anti-Israel comments made by Rep. Ilhan Omar House Democratic leaders on Wednesday will call up a vote on a resolution condemning anti-Semitism — a move meant to respond to anti-Israel comments made by Minnesota Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar. Staff from the offices of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel, Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler and Ethics Chairman Ted Deutch worked on the resolution over the weekend but the text has yet to be finalized, according to a senior Democratic aide. Representatives Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota were hailed as symbols of diversity when they were sworn in last month as the first two Muslim women to serve in Congress, Ms. Tlaib in her mother’s hand-embroidered Palestinian thobe, Ms. Omar in a tradition-shattering hijab. Four weeks later, their uncompromising views on Israel have made them perhaps the most embattled new members of the Democratic House majority. Almost daily, Republicans brashly accuse Ms. Tlaib and Ms. Omar of anti-Semitism and bigotry, hoping to make them the Democrats’ version of Representative Steve King as they try to tar the...

Two members of the U.S. House of Representatives re-introduced a bill last week that would make malicious acts of animal cruelty a felony nationwide. A person convicted of the crime could face a fine or up to seven years in prison, or both. The bill, known as the Preventing Animal Cruel and Torture (PACT) Act, is co-sponsored by Democrat Ted Deutch and Republican Vern Buchanan. PACT would criminalize "crushing, burning, drowning, suffocating and impaling animals." The measure would also address bestiality and other attempts to sexually exploit animals. Deutch tweeted, "We will get this done. It's bipartisan, common-sense policy that...

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the STOP School Violence Act with overwhelming bipartisan support Wednesday afternoon. Florida Reps. John Rutherford (R) and Ted Deutch (D) introduced the bill prior to the shooting in Parkland, Florida, and Rutherford addressed the media following Wednesday’s vote. “The action that the House just took, I think, is an important first help forward in protecting our children, our teachers and other administrators within our schools,” Rutherford stated. “Because it’s going to not only harden the target through technology, but most importantly, I believe, it’s going to provide the tools and education needed...” “Violence at...

Saturday, Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL) discussed the bill Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed Friday to raise the purchase of long firearms from the age of 18 to 21, calling it “merely the beginning” of the response to last month’s Parkland, FL, shooting. The National Rifle Association (NRA) sued the state of Florida over the provision, saying it violates the Second Amendment. “This provision that requires someone to be 21 to buy a gun would have prevented the 19-year-old shooter, who bought an AR-15 and used it to kill 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas — that’s what the provision would...

Several top Democrats are voicing grave reservations over the Obama administration's emerging deal governing the future of Iran's nuclear program. Reps. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) and Ted Deutch (D-Fla.) said they welcome a discussion on the framework agreement unveiled Thursday, but harbor deep doubts that the Iranians can be trusted to make good on their commitments. "I greet any deal with Iran with great skepticism given its deceptive history and ongoing destabilizing and dangerous activities," Deutch, the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs subpanel on the Middle East, said in a statement. "I remain deeply concerned as to how a...

In a sometimes heated meeting with Israel’s ambassador to the U.S., several House Democrats expressed anger Wednesday over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s acceptance of a Republican invitation to address Congress next month. Some of the seven lawmakers—all of whom are Jewish and strong supporters of Israel—urged the prime minister to postpone the speech or hold it somewhere other than Congress, participants said. They told Ambassador Ron Dermer that Netanyahu was unwise to accept a GOP invitation that bypassed President Barack Obama, and to schedule the speech only two weeks before Netanyahu seeks another term in Israel’s elections. The meeting’s purpose...

“Reckless” was the talking point word of the day Monday as South Florida Democrats sought to turn up the heat on Republicans, blaming the party’s tea party faction for the partial government shutdown and attempting to show how people are being hurt. “This shutdown is irresponsible, infuriating and reckless,” declared U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, a Democrat who represents mostly coastal Broward and Palm Beach counties. “Congress has been hijacked by 30 or 40 radical members who oppose reasonable solutions. It’s been a week, because of a tea party tantrum, the whole country has been paralyzed,” she said. “Enough is enough....

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) announced Sunday that she has spearheaded a bipartisan letter calling on the French government to cancel plans to release a convicted terrorist who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of an American and an Israeli diplomat. The letter, which was sent to France’s Ambassador to the United States, urges French officials to stop the release of George Ibrahim Abdallah, the former head of the Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Brigade who was convicted in 1987 of killing an Israeli diplomat and a U.S. military attaché. The U.S. State Department has also expressed its opposition...

Things got tense at Monday’s Forum Club of the Palm Beaches meeting when sparks flew between guest speakers Ted Deutch and Allen West. The two congressmen were scheduled to speak in front of a few hundred guests at the Palm Beach County Convention Center for 10 minutes each on the Affordable Care Act, then take questions from the audience. The festivities began cordially enough, with the gentlemen displaying mutual respect for each other, but the day took a turn for the ugly

Florida state Sen. Ted Deutch (D) has won the special election to replace former Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.). Deutch had about 61 percent of the vote with more than half of precincts reporting, while Republican contractor Ed Lynch was taking about 36 percent of the vote. The race has been called by AP. Deutch was the heavy favorite heading into Tuesday night in a strongly Democratic district. Republicans didn't do much to contest the race. Wexler resigned in late 2009 to head up a Middle East think tank.
