Mike Huckabee? Are you kidding? Who are you people?

Arkansas Governer Mike Huckabee suddenly seems to be the established GOP savior. True, he is great on the stump. He is and should be a preacher. But president? NOT if you're a conservative!

Remember, a lot of Arkansans voted for a Clinton presidency so they could get him out of the state! Most of them feel as uninspired about the Huckster. YES, I do mean Huckster.

I made a prediction a few months back, that Huckabee would get a GOP push, that he would be perfect pick to them to balance out a moderate Rudy type candidate with his southern charm and religiosity. Now, I'm convinced of it.

A wise observer stated one of Huck's problems perfectly, "Yep Huckabee is his own man alright, except when it comes to illegal immigration. Then he’s George Bush."

Huck talks some good lines on immigration in the debates, but look at some recent statements he's made. In other words, does this man stand by his own policies? One thing that has angered Arkansans is that Huck financed a Mexican Consulate in Little Rock with their tax dollars and insisted on alien children be admitted to college!

LITTLE ROCK -June 30, 2005 - In a impassioned speech before hundreds of influential Hispanic civil rights leaders from across the nation, Gov. Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life.

"I would hope that no matter who we are, or where we are from, that America should always be a place that opens its arms, opens it heart, opens its spirit to people who come because they want the best for their families ...," Huckabee said as the largely Hispanic audience gave him a standing ovation.

Huckabee was the keynote speaker, along with Tyson Foods Inc. Chairman and CEO John Tyson, at a noon luncheon of the League of United Latin American Citizens, which is holding its 76th annual convention in Little Rock.

In his opening remarks, he said the nation will need to address the concerns of the Hispanic community because of its growing influence and population base.

"Pretty soon, Southern white guys like me may be in the minority," Huckabee said jokingly as the crowd roared in laughter. He told the LULAC delegates that their presence in the state's capital city was very important because Arkansas has one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the nation.

"Your gathering is so very significant for our state," Huckabee said. "We are delighted to have you......"

He has compared illegal aliens to slaves brought here in chains from Africa, saying, "I think frankly the Lord is giving us a second chance to do better than we did before."

Toward that end, when an Arkansas legislator introduced a bill that would prevent illegal aliens from voting and receiving state benefits, Huckabee denounced the bill, saying it would rile up "those who are racist and bigots."

He also made the insane point that companies like Toyota would not invest in Arkansas if the state didn't allow non-citizens to vote because it would "send the message that, essentially, 'If you don't look like us, talk like us and speak like us, we don't want you.'

One other bone of contention is shown in this video, where Huckabee Calls for National Smoking Ban in Public Places. Nanny state, anyone?

Ann Coulter sums it up:

"Like all the (other) Democratic candidates for president, he supports a federal law to ban smoking -- unless you're an illegal alien smoking at a Toyota plant. (I just realized why Mike Huckabee can't run for president as a Democrat -- they've already got Mike Gravel.)"

No one who supports rewarding crime and stealing private property should be a preacher.

I very much admire loyalty as well. Hey, suggesting that one should live a certain way/not do a certain thing is one thing, but Huckabee or any other elected representative signing a law banning a particular thing is just unacceptable. That’s where I draw the line. We are adults, not children.

Take it from me. My wife (who knew the Huckster in college) said from the very day he announced his running that he was just positioning himself for a vice-presidency slot, and sure enough it's shaping up just as she predicted.

Any conservative who may be considering supporting the Huckster needs to spend a little time reading up on his antics as governor of our state in the follwing articles. Then if you decide to support him, don't whine later that you didn't know what you were supporting.

Reasons why Arkansas' ex-Governor Mike Huckabee is a RINO and no longer fit for public office

From TheBattman - 6/7/7:

Long and short on Huckabee from his record:

Positives:

1. Has been very strong on gun rights (CCW, protecting gun makers from stupid lawsuits).

2. Pro-Marriage: Marraige protection Act was his baby along with covenant marriage.

3. Pro-life

Negatives:

1. Supported taxes (Old-fashioned Tax-and-Spend politician)- engineered a 3% state income tax surcharge (a tax on the tax you paid in income tax) that was supposedly to make up for budget shortfalls - and then kept in in place a year longer than was necessary (and promised).

Raised fuel taxes

Encouraged the use of sales tax as an easy means of revenue boosting.

Opposed all efforts to reduce the sales tax on groceries and prescription drugs, even in years with a budget surplus. Heck, our new Democrat (liberal at that) Governor, under public pressure, agreed to a reduction in grocery sales tax...

2. ArKidsFirst - One of the larges social spending programs in Arkansas history was his baby. I don’t have a problem with helping low income folks get medical care, but I know many folks on it that could afford regular coverage - but why when big gubmint will give it free?

3. Big Government - Huckabee, between his socialist healthcare moves, his heavy hand regarding tobacco use, his mandatory “search lunchboxes of school kids” “health” initiative, and massive expansion of most social programs...

4. Poor record of political appointments - just one example - Sheffield Nelson on the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission - who has single-handedly tarnished the organization and really pissed off sportsmen in the state with his obstructionist and blatantly anti-”regular Joe” initiatives.

5. Illegal Immigration - Huckabee actually called anyone against illegal immigration (those who wanted to prevent free tuition to illlegals, free social benefits to illegals, etc.) non-Christian.

6. Party Affiliation - Huckabee has chosen in the last couple of elections to not be supportive of Republican candidates, including Lt. Governor, when they were a solid conservative choice, preferring more “moderate” or even liberal candidates.

I’m sure there is plenty more (maybe both pro and con) that others can add...

Count me in! These nanny staters need to be taught a very valuable lesson! Lets get someone on board to say if the are going to ban smoking everywhere, in any municipality, city, etc, then they should not benefit from the sale of them in their town. Make them give up the tax dollars by not allowing them to sell them. They either provide a place for the use of a legal product, or they can’t profit from the sale. How many convenient stores do you suppose would put up with that?

Saying and then actually voting “No” to any Republican for President in ‘08 is also helping Hillary Clinton to win in ‘08! I will always refuse to go that far no matter how much I may not like the final choice for the GOP for President! It’s never very smart to kill yourself politically just because certain Presidential candidates are not exactly 100% to where you want them to be on all of the issues! A President Hillary Clinton along with a continued Democratic majority in Congress will truly be a long-term disaster for the entire U.S. for a finite number of reasons!

***I like how Cogamer had to say it, so once again I’m stealing it:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1909436/posts?page=158#152

some people on this board are PUSHING it. They not only expect us to grin and tolerate it, they expect us to help!! They see conservatives being marginalized, and then bash conservatives for not supporting the politicians who are marginalizing them. It’s insane!

Let’s look at this through the prism of other movements: Would pro-choice women vote for a politician who announced he wanted to make abortion illegal? Would black voters ever support a politician who wanted to bring back segregation? Would muslims ever support a candidate who was on the record as saying islam was evil?

Would their friends even TRY to tell them they HAD to vote for these candidates even if they didn’t want to?

No! But conservatives are expected to vote for anyone who has an R after their name, no matter how dangerous to the movement, just to avoid the ire of a bunch of wishy-washy phonies whose only brush with conservatism is the fact that they post to this website.

They need to understand - if they nominate Rudy, THEY are responsible for what follows. THEY know many will refuse to support him. So, turning their flawed logic on its head : If they support Rudy, they must actually want Hillary to win. Indeed - if Hillary changed parties they’d be telling us we had to support HER to stop OBAMA!!!!

Just last Sunday a woman called Bill Cunningham, who likes both Hunter and Huckabee, and the woman told Cunningham that Huckabee met with Presidente Fox, and now there is a Counsul spelling? from Mexico. Cunningham was surprised, and didn’t seem to like that too well.
