Grand Rants ^ | 10-28-09 | Gerry Ashley

Posted on 10/28/2009 8:32:27 AM PDT by Stoutcat

A retired construction worker from Flint, MI named Wally Wallington thinks he might know one way [Stonehenge may have been built]. He even goes so far as to demonstrate it by building a min-Stonehenge on his property… all by himself.

I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

I thought Stonehenge was built by dinosaurs.

What the hell is this—it’s only 18 inches high!

I guess there’s a video on the site that doesn’t come up for me. But when I saw the word “mini” it kind of threw the whole thing up in the air. Until you do it with the full-sized rocks it seems like you can’t really say what works and what doesn’t.

He is moving 1600 lb blocks all by himself.

Try again to get a look at the video. I don’t know how big the stonehenge blocks are, but wally’s blocks are not “mini.” They’re 11 feet long and he’s erecting them with a crew of one.

Really quite clever.

This is impressive, but it isn’t clear how to place the cross pieces on top of the vertical columns. Did I miss something?

What a great guy. Must be fun to have a pawpaw like that!

Oh, and why I am I not surprised that academics might not have been able to figure out what this retired engineer did, even after considering the issue for centuries? I am very far from disparaging the work of scientists, but sometimes asking common people with hands-on experience is a quick way to an answer.

There is a beautiful Stonehenge in Oregon built as a tribute to World War II vets.

It goes to show what wonders can occur when a bright American with too much time on his hands decides to achieve an impossible task...

The amazing thing is America is chock-full of guys like this.

I’m bookmarking this article. Thanks!

Excellent video. I saw another with the same guy that dealt with moving the blocks for the Egyptian pyramids.

As someone from the snowy part of the country I always thought they moved the blocks to the site over snow and ice.

What is this? A Stonehenge for ants? It needs to be at least 4 times bigger!

In ancient times, hundreds of years before the dawn of history, an ancient race of people... the Druids. No one knows who they were or what they were doing...

Midgets.

Midgets will make it look larger.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

I don’t think he’s gotten so far as to place a cross-piece - at least not in this video.
He probably has a plan, though.
