Cosmic Impact Site That Created Earth’s Axial Tilt and Fault Lines

© Mihai Radu Draghici

Abstract: Using Google Earth and browsing the geographic appearance of the Earth’s crust starting from the South Pacific Ocean right above Antarctica and traveling over to Drake’s Passage and into the South Atlantic Ocean there seems to be a visual trace that some sort of cosmic collision occurred in that area. (See Figure 1) The impact of the object surfed across the ocean and collided with the bottom of South America where it once connected to Antarctica creating Drake’s Passage opening. This impact also may have had the kinetic energy to break the Earth’s crustal plate and create the fault lines (See Figure 3) in addition to changing Earth’s axial tilt (See Figure 2).[Report and Opinion. 2010;2(2):1-2]. (ISSN: 1553-9873).

Figure 1. Impact collision point and path of motion for the cosmic object

They say pictures speak a thousand words so before you read what I’m about to say take a moment and study the photos shown in figures below. In Figure 1, you can see a red outline drawn to represent the impact site and the path of trajectory. The object hit the South Atlantic Ocean and surfed around the top edge of Antarctica until colliding with what was once the connected land mass between the bottom tip of South America and Antarctica known as Drake’s Passage (Figure 4). As the object surfed across the ocean it tore away at the ice sheet and created a gigantic wave across the Pacific Ocean destroying almost every land mass above sea level in its path. The force of the water can be easily seen carving out the entire western coastline of South America all the way up to Mexico (Figure 5).

The Mayan’s placed a monument on Robinson Crusoe Island off the coast of Chile and some people believe this is “Apocalypse Island.” If this impact really did occur then this island would most definitely have been the center point which experienced the most horrific events from the tsunami and shock wave from the energy released in the area. Perhaps the civilization at Machu Picchu in Peru was started because it was the only place left to inhabit after this event occurred in the region. All history was wiped off the face of the southern hemisphere surrounding this impact and affected all civilizations across the globe. The shock wave and amount of water that was displaced out of the Pacific could have travelled as far East as the Lost City of Atlantis. There is a Google Earth image at the bottom of the Atlantic Sea showing a grid-like pattern on the ocean floor which may resemble a man-made city structure about 620 miles of the coast of Spain near the Canary Islands. The force of impact would have created the fault line that broke the Earth’s plate right down the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and would have flooded most of the plains in the area. The story of Atlantis speaks of giant volcano popping out of the Earth and destroying everything and then the city just sinks away under water. Depending on what this cosmic object was made out of it could have added to the Earth’s water mass and increased the amount of water on the planet. Astronomers have found asteroids that contain large amounts of frozen water and this type of object may have been what hit Earth.

Figure 2. Earth’s Axial Tilt in Relation to the Impact Site

If you study the fault line Figure 3 below you will notice that there are breaks in Earth’s plate along the exact impact location surrounding the boundaries of the object’s path as it traveled across the crust after impact. The force exerted on Earth’s crust perfectly demonstrates the pattern of cracks along stress points from the aftershock across the entire planet. In addition to the fault lines, Earth’s axial tilt was created from this cosmic impact as well. Take a look at Figure 2 to the left and how the impact location perfectly represents the physics associated with such a collision rotating our planet’s center of spin.

Figure 3. Earth’s Crustal Fault Lines in Relation to the Impact Site

Figure 4. Drake’s Passage Opening

Figure 5. S. America’s Coastline Topography

All this evidence puts into perspective the possibility of such a cosmic impact having occurred here on the planet Earth within recorded history and the existence of human kind.

Is that true? In all sincerity, I do not recall that at all.

The initial discussion related to long time frames regarding the statement by another that the earth ‘does not wobble’. What can be used for calculations over the minute time-frame of human lifetime or history doesn’t really play into the geologic time-frames we are discussing. The point was regarding the 2 degree wobble over a 41k year period, not enough to impact small time-frame calculations we need, but significant over the millions of years of earth’s history.

That “wobble” gives us our seasons.

No, it doesn't. The wobble takes over 20,000 years to complete one cycle. A cycle of seasons happens once per year. An interesting thing about the precession of the equinox caused by the wobble, though, is that all the houses of the Zodiac are more than one house off from what they were when they became fixed in tradition. That is, if you're a Scorpio, it's because that's the sign under which you would have been born several thousand years ago. It's not the constellation under which you were actually born now. This is, in and of itself, sufficient to invalidate the whole notion of astrology.

despite the conservative tone of this website FR is very pro-Darwinism.

In other words, conservative of the science/biology status quo as presented in high school biology texts.

CHANGES IN THE ROTATION AXIS OF EARTH AFTER ASTEROID OR COMETARY IMPACTS

Evidence exists that the poles have changed position during the recent past in a very rapid way - in a matter of days. This possibility, however, so far has been disregarded by official science on the basis that such a phenomenon is thought to be physically impossible: no mechanism is known and no energy capable of provoking it. The hypothesis that the inclination of the terrestrial axis in relation to the ecliptic and the position of the poles might change has however been taken into consideration since last century. Some of the greatest scientists of the time, including J.C.Maxwell and Sir George Darwin, considered this problem but decided that the stabilising effect of the equatorial bulge was so great that no conceivable force originating within the Earth could lead to a shifting of the axis, except for the collision with another planet.

They did not take into account, however, the phenomena of instability which could occur to an Earth-like gyroscope, consisting of a plastic shell, easily deformed by centrifugal forces, covered by freely-moving liquids - the only body of this kind in the solar system.

Our work shows that the impact of extraterrestrial objects as small as an Apollo class asteroid could “trigger” a process which in a matter of days would cause a “reshaping” of the equatorial bulge around a different axis, inducing therefore a shift of the poles and a change of the tilt. In order to trigger the process, the peak value of the torque developed by the impact has to overtake a “threshold” value, equal to the stabilizing torque developed by the equatorial bulge. A rough calculation shows that the threshold value can be reached during the impact with a body much smaller than a one-km-sized asteroid.

A shift of the poles would cause world-wide destructive phenomena such as: earthquakes and volcanic activity in all areas interested by adjustments of the crust; violent winds and torrential rains, with unprecedented floods all over the world; wide fluctuations of the oceans’ level, with subsequent temporary submersion of large parts of the continents; perturbation of the magnetic field. On top of that, there would be permanent changes of the climate, due on one side to the shift of the poles (and therefore to a change of latitude of many regions, deviation of oceanic and atmospheric currents and so on); on the other side to the change of the tilt, with subsequent modification of the seasonal pattern.

A shift of the poles occurring at the end of Pleistocene, with all its related destructive phenomena, could explain coherently the climatic situation before that date, and the situation observed after that date, as well as ancient traditions about a world-wide catastrophe.

It’s nice to hear what really happened to Atlantis, finally.

Figure 4. Drake’s Passage Opening, is interesting.

I thought I understood until I read the comments. Gee whiz. Science, existentialism, astronomy, philosophy, nihilism, religion, phew!

Nice ping you got there.

Actually in the original Enuma Elish Tiamat was a planetary body that would become the Earth after a celestial collision.

Yes, I am in error. The prior pole star was Thuban (α Draconis), not Tiamat. I am making more and more errors in memory recall. Normally I would not be concerned but with astronomy, I have studied for 55 years and confusing Thuban is frightful.

I’m a Physicist by education, but fancy myself as an amateur archeo-astronomer. It’s my latest intellectual addiction - particularly Sumerian astronomy.

There is a great book, Star Names - Their Lore and Meaning (which you can read in its entirety online) written by Richard Hinckly Allen in 1899.

To get the flavor of the tome, go to the second tabulation on the link and click Cancer, one of the oldest and most cherished zodiac signs by the ancients (you'll soon see why). Please take the 20 minutes or so to read this one entry, for you'll see a general discription of the star name, by many cultures, and the mythology surrounding each. Infused with commentary regarding historical reference influenced by the asterism. Then a review of each star of the asterism and the significance of culture, society and science.

Right up your alley, I would think.

I still think the Firestone et al book does a better job of explaining the disaster at the end of the Pleistocene.
