Zimmerman trial outrage
The Washington Times ^ | May 25, 2012 | Professor Karen L. Bune, George Mason University

Things have spun out of control in the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman case in Sanford, Fla. (“Zimmerman’s account of killing corroborated,” Web, Thursday).

The police were instantly and unfairly blasted for failing to arrest Mr. Zimmerman, the Sanford police chief stepped down when he shouldn’t have, Mr. Zimmerman was already fingered as the guilty party before a thorough and fair investigation was completed, civil rights leaders descended upon the town pointing accusatory fingers, and a bounty was placed on Mr. Zimmerman’s head. In addition, media outlets and talking heads put their own spin on the story.

The case has now devolved into a turf battle of tense race relations. Parties are jumping to conclusions that are not based on facts or evidence but instead on the preponderance of divergent public opinion.

Undoubtedly it is a tragedy that this episode occurred at all and resulted in the death of Trayvon Martin. However, in light of new facts based on an autopsy of the deceased, photos of Mr. Zimmerman coupled with a paramedic’s report, additional witness reports and other information, the determination of who the bona fide victim was may, in time, demonstrate that Trayvon Martin was not the completely innocent party some might have hoped.

Certainly Mr. Zimmerman made a tremendous mistake in not obeying the dispatcher’s orders to remain in his vehicle until police arrived. What followed that instruction, however, is where the case presently stands.

Like everyone else in this country and under the tenets of the Constitution and the laws of the land, Mr. Zimmerman remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law....

Unless there is some really significant information that none of us know about, I don’t see how a judge could even let this go to trial.

May I recommend that the illustrious attorney Bune be banished for life to the ‘bunedocks’ from whence she came?

I’ll contribute five dollars towards hiring a short bus for her trip back.

I guess the lesson to be learned from the information-remain in vehicle until police arrive-is that when young black males are about one should stay in their vehicle, roll up the windows and lock the doors. Urban safari anyone?

The judge could easily release Mr. Zimmerman under Stand Your Ground, simple self-defense, or just on the fact that there’s no “there” there. But if it does come down to Martial Law:

He wasn’t ordered to at all. Dispatcher said something like “We don’t need you to do that”.

So what? He’s a neighborhood patrol A quasi sheriff. Had he followed and stopped Martin from murdering 3 children he would be a hero. Instead he followed a suspicious person who then confronted him violently. Who was then shot.

The real crime here is the incite to riot, incite to injure or maim, and an offer for a contract killing of Zimmerman.

Why hasn’t the Justice Department arrested and charged Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and/or the leaders of the new black panthers?

Wasn't ordered and couldn't be if the dispatcher had. As noted above. WashTimes fails Journo 101.

Any cop knows a dispatcher can’t give orders. Orders come from police supervisors. Been there. Take it from an ex-cop.

Can any cop give a lawful order, that must be obeyed, over the phone, in a situation like that? To clarify Zimmerman's situation let's recall that the dispatcher told Zimmerman to keep an eye on Martin prior to saying "we don't need you to do that."

I don’t think the dispatcher ever told him to remain in his vehicle. When he was told he didn’t need to follow him, Zimmerman was already out of the vehicle. At that point he said “OK” and was headed back to his vehicle.

What you stated was my understanding also. I have not even taken the time to write a sophisticated article on the matter. The writer of this article is another person in the government salaried PC machine who tries to show an "independent" opinion, but has to throw a few twisted words in to let her masters know she is still bowing down to them instead of the WHOLE truth.

When I see Jackson’s and Sharpton’s name associated with an issue, I know instantly there is a bogus complaint. The last really big one was the Duke LaCrosse fiasco.
They are obviously done with this one now that the evidence is out. Watch for the next one.

I see The BIG LIE continues. Asked if he was following, Zimmerman said he was and the dispatcher said, "Ok, we don't need you to do that." There's no order there.

Saying "OK" is permissive and the second part is at most suggestive. By an objective standard, there is no ORDER and no attempt either.

Not just that, but the author makes the common error that ht order or suggestion or whatever was to not get out of his truck. That’s false. Also without evidence is the assertion that Zimmerman didn’t follow the suggestion to “not follow.”

'Cause dey be black. I know the truth is now politically incorrect but we don't need to ignore it because of that. The intent of political correctness is to silence us but I will no longer play along.

Some Blacks (men and women) have a habit of intimidating and beating up people when they feel dissed or just want to pull off a crime. The edgy temperment makes people afraid of them and they like it. Thug makes them feel powerful.

Thanks for your straight forward comments in these times of political correctness. The attitude you describe is being cultivated by the Left. Nearly all black churches teach Black Liberation Theology instead of Chritianity. It is simply Marxism in a religious costume. Many black preachers have become modern day Shamans. All ills, many of them imaginary, suffered by the black community are the fault of whitey.

The aggressive attitude is an offshoot of the ghetto drug culture where might makes right. It is a primitive culture at best. Yet, as you say, it is evident in both male and female and it is practiced against blacks as well as whites.

Lately, however, there seems to be a political agenda afoot to stir up trouble and part of that has been blacks targetting whites for violence. I don't know why they chose the Treyvon Martin case for exploitation but they did. It was about a month old before they took note of it so they had to have had a reason for picking it. Fortunately, some Freepers took note and started cataloging the occurances of black on white crimes for balance. Those far exceed white on black in both number and brutality. Still, you could rub the MSM's noses in it and they would ignore it. The media are part of the conspiracy to further unrest and the Marxist agenda.

This anti-society attitude of blacks is further displayed in the occasional riot. There doesn't have to be a grievance. They will loot and destroy a city even when their team wins a championship. They are strictly against "The Man!"

They didn't learn that attitude on their own. They are taught that by Community Organizers like Obama. They are told that by the media and especially the black media. They have been kept in positions of disadvantage and grouped into ghettos by the Marxist Democrats.

You described the situation succinctly and I am just adding a little more meat to the bones.

Dispatcher said something like “We don’t need you to do that” BECAUSE Z complained about investigating further IN THE COLD RAIN.
Dispatcher was relieving Z of a self imposed sense of obligation.

I don’t know why they chose the Treyvon Martin case for exploitation but they did.

Leftists had the power to civilly sue people who shot a thug in self defense. Their prosecutors and judges could use the murkiness of “self defense” to prosecute those who killed in self defense. With the stand your ground law, they don’t have that power to punish concealed carriers for self defense. Like fast and furious, this case is Obama’s effort to regain the power to persecute self defenders outside their homes in the name of race and gun control.

Second, racial voter polarization. The Left is empowered by race hate. The more radical and powerful (violent, racist), the better - they think.

But I think the race power game is a miscaculation. Whites are still the majority and Obama targeted whites for black racist violence. He makes the assumption that Hispanics are like blacks in Left’s thug race hate culture and they are not. His behavior has polarized the Hispanic vote. In addition, George is not white...and I don’t think they realized that George Zimmerman would turn out to be a black, Hispanic, white guy.

The gun control game is risky for Leftists. The public supports self defense and is well educated and organized. Obama poked a tiger with fast and furious and now Trayvon. They are watching this and they are not liking what they see in race baiting injustice. That is why they put stand your ground laws in place.
