Any reason we need to back this guy? Any reason to boost him against McCaskill? Really, any? We could run a rusted out Chevy truck against her and win.
He has proven beyond any reasonable doubt that he is not ready for prime time. And on a Missouri TV station no less, not even real prime time. Abortion issues aside, to me this was clear proof he has not done his homework, has not thought out what his answers would be to the most obvious questions that he might be asked. Did he think this wasn’t gong to come up? His staff must be incompetent. What a disaster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85V1Xewv20k
Seems to me that it should be up to the people of Missouri.
Agreed. I don’t know the guy. He’s PROBABLY a good man, with good ideas. That won’t cut it anymore. I’m tired of defending people who are ideologically “pure” but completely unelectable because of things like this. I also understand there are a lot of people who find such pragmatism offensive. I appreciate those views, but I’m contemplating the real world.
You are, of course, correct in the main. And it was correct to let O’Donnell run in Delaware, and Angle in Nevada.
but completely unelectable becaubut completely unelectable because of things like thisse of things like this
....what a great idea! reward the leftist media by trashing a conservative and line up with the bastard GOPe who want to toss the winner of the people’s vote! cowardly puke repeubs that can’t support a 96% conservative congressman maybe should go join the main street coalition.... stupid girly boy NR readers who let the Axelrods of the world lead them by the nose... criminy
ymmv
I admire your philosophical consistency. I really do. I’m just willing to lose some battles to win a bigger war.
Get it over with bring back Kit Bond and be done with it
Correct, but not smart.
We had a melt down like this in the 2010 colorado governor’s race. Ken Buck would be a Senator, and Obama care would not have passed had not charlatan Dan Maes not refused to get and Jane Norton refused to read the handwriting on the wall. Bottom line -this kind of meltdown will effect races up and down the ticket and we cannot afford that this year. If he truly believes in conservatism, he will bow out.
Just donated to Todd Akin 2012 Senate bid. The word of the day is stick and stay and don’t let the mealy mouth RINO’S have their sway.
I agree lets make the 2012 election about Akin instead of Obama.
Toricelli was a criminal. Since when does making a verbl gaffe the equivalent of being under investigation for a crime? Personal note: I knew his mistress in the DC area.
Akin was born in New York City, the son of Nancy Perry (née Bigelow) and Rev. Paul Bigelow Akin. He moved to St. Louis and attended John Burroughs School. After graduating, he attended the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts where he earned a degree in management engineering, and in 1984 he earned a Master of Divinity degree at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis. During college he was member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
From 1972 to 1980, Akin served in the Missouri National Guard. After his military career, he took up work at IBM as an engineer and later became a manager at Laclede Steel Company.
Akin was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 1988, representing Town and Country and much of West County. He won re-election in 1990 (59%), 1992 (100%), 1994 (70%), 1996 (67%), and 1998 (66%). 12 years in the state house, Akin voted for carrying concealed weapons, voted against the parks and soils sales tax, voted against the 1993 tax increase and education spending increase. Akin sponsored legislation to prohibit casino companies from contributing to Missouri state lawmakers. In 1995, he fought Democrat Governor Mel Carnahan on state-funding for abortion, which Akin opposed.
In 2000, Republican U.S. Representative Jim Talent vacated the seat in his unsuccessful run for Governor of Missouri. Akin won a closely contested Republican primary election to replace Talent, defeating former St. Louis County Executive Gene McNary and State Senator Franc Flotron. He defeated Democratic State Senator Ted House in the general election, winning 55 percent of the vote. He never faced another contest even that close, and was reelected five times.
In 2010, Akin won re-election with 67.9% of the vote. He had been challenged for the seat by Democratic nominee Arthur Lieber, Libertarian nominee Steve Mosbacher, and write-in candidate Patrick M. Cannon.
Akin has a lifetime ACU rating of 97.24.
I’m kind of sensitive about seeing anyone’s candidate thrown overboard. In 08 my congressman voted against TARP both times and the NRCC stripped him of funds in the final weeks of the campaign and called him a lost cause.
The “lost cause” lost the race by a whopping 2% and we were stuck with one of Pelosi’s pool boys for two years. (In a real sense, the GOP tossing conservatives overboard gave us Obamacare)
However my failed congressman ran again in 2010 and defeated 5 GOP challengers including a ringer they carpetbagged into the district before going on to win the general. This yea the GOP has a lot more respect for him after the people rose up and put him back in place despite their wishes. He’s already defeated his sole GOP challenger by a wide margin and the democrats don’t appear to be wasting money on the district this year.
Republicans are not allowed Bidens and this seat is important. Very Important to allow this to polarize MO into a win state for not only the Senate but the carry over vote for President. Obama must go, so no mulligans. Dude should have checked his mouth at the door.
