I understand Scott is writing another novel dealing with the subject, but not exactly a sequel. I’ll have to ask. Had no idea he was the author who wrote the Ice Harvest, which was made into a movie a handful of years ago, with John Cusack and Billy Bob, I think.
So others can just read the article, rather than use more of their often limited allowed downloading allotment.
Basically, if you CAN upload the full article here, you should. It’s a courtesy to your fellow FReepers.
There are many sites I refuse to go to because they demand a click for every page of an article, or even split the article into two pages, with the second page only having one short concluding paragraph. It’s rude and self-serving.
Don, if you don’t want to follow the link, that’s great. If you think this through, though, the reason that other websites don’t want their entire articles copied is that it defeats the purpose of them creating the content to begin with—which is to attract visitors to their sites. And if you keep on thinking it through, you’ll see it doesn’t hurt sites like Free Republic, it helps them, as they become known for being the place to go find interesting stuff. So it boils down to this: you’re complaining because you skimped on how many megabytes you can download, and rather than accept the position you put yourself in, you’d rather accuse me of being rude and self serving. Sorry to burst another bubble, but I’m not limited in my bandwidth usage at work, at home, or on wifi.
Second (and third and fourth ad infinitum) clicks to (allow more ads and mindless videos to load and) read an article are a waste of time.

Last I read the rules, I was in compliance. If you can refer to a policy somewhere, I’d be glad to review it. Long time ago it was easy to find, and posting in the Bloggers & Personal forum was okay. Do let me know if I’m wrong.

Phillips is the best. And I’ve found over the years that there are pockets of literary readers on FR.

Actually, I’m posting content that many in the community, being fairly like minded, might find interesting. I’m enriching the community who calls Free Republic home, and Free Republic at the same time. I’m still waiting for someone to cite a rule I’ve broken. Also, it’s interesting that you level the charge of using FR for free advertising, when your position is apparently that you and everyone should enjoy free content. You’re missing the tradeoff that makes Free Republic so cool a destination that it attracts hundreds of thousands of people. But I guess you have and opinion and an ass and you want to show both of them.
