Two of my favorite things about the 80’s in one graphic

Back to the Future is by far one of my all-time favorites. When I was in college I would play my (newly purchased) DVD's of the trilogy while I worked on my illustration projects. It helped me keep time on how long I was working on something. For a while I had it all practically memorized.

The 80s also represent the last all most all songs could be danced to.

Like any other time, there was some crappy songs but what is still the most played music at weddings and dances? The 80’s was one of the iconic times in music.

And it was all fun!

On the other hand, it might be okay to condemn the Rock of that decade purely on the basis of Rick Astley saturation.

LOL!

Yup, forgot about REM. I loved their stuff during the 80s. Then Stipe got all self-important and with a couple of exceptions they sucked. That's another band I have a hard time listening to anymore, even the early good stuff, because of Stipe's in-your-face gaydom these days. The Smithereens were another good 80s band.

You sound like me, loved REM back in the 80s, then Stipe had to open his mouth. And the 'Reens, rule!

Yeah, great band that never quite got the recognition they deserved. I've seen them live a handful of times and they always put on a great show. I have and still enjoy all of their albums. IMHO Especially for You is one of the best albums ever produced and "Behind the Wall of Sleep" and "Blood and Roses" are two of the best songs ever written.

I really liked "In a Lonely Place" with Suzanne Vega, too. And "Green Thoughts" is every bit as good.

Agreed. “In a Lonely Place” was the first song of theirs I ever heard. I was regularly listening to WRNR based in Annapolis, which played really cool, obscure stuff during the eighties and nineties. When I heard them play that song I thought, “Hmm, that’s something new and interesting.” Then I got the album and was blown away. WRNR was the best station ever once upon a time. Now it’s a Spanish music station. :-(
