Some Democrats are privately worried that Hillary Clinton has too much baggage to make a successful presidential run in 2016. In casting about for a credible alternative candidate, some eyes are gazing, quite longingly, at...Al Gore.
Not because he's baggage-free -- he did lose to George W. Bush in 2000 and then there's that whole Clinton thing again. No, some on the Left are urging Al to run in 2016 because he is so doggone worried about global warming:
When it comes to climate change, there's no one in the Democratic Party or any other political party with Gore's combination of credibility and commitment. Bill McKibben, founder of the climate action group 350.org, calls(link is external) Gore's work on the issue "the most successful second act of any political life in U.S. history." Perhaps that's hyperbole, but it speaks to the regard in which Gore is held by climate activists. Though he's been out of office for 15 years, he's never left the climate fight. Gore has proven himself the opposite of those politicians who love the game more than they care about the issues.
Nevermind that Gore has become quite rich serving as a pitchman for the Greenies. Or that many of his claims of earthly apocalypse have been found wanting. None of that matters to the true believers. And Al may just be paying some attention to the hype. Fox Business reporter Charlie Gasparino recently wrote on Facebook:
a dem fundraising source: " al gore is dying his hair & losing weight" unconfirmed but maybe laying off twinkies means he wants to be prez
We shall see. But if the Left's doubts about Mrs. Clinton continue to grow, and their champion, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, refuses to run, Mr. Gore may just find a reason to get in.
We'll know for sure if Gore starts taking guitar lessons to compete with that other possible Democrat presidential candidate, Martin O'Malley.
I agree that he should have been committed a long time ago, but credibility??!!??
Al Gore is double rich already, and would gain very little materially by taking another long ride through the electoral meatgrinder. If Gore enters, I expect it will be something like what I presume Huckabee is doing. Enter the race for the main purpose of spoiling someone else’s chance of being nominated. I’ll bet Huck already has a contratual clause allowing him to come back to Fox when this entire theater of posturing pontification is finally over.
Since Mike is building a mansion in Florida, I think you’re right.
Yeah, nevermind the pile of cash he scored when his worthless TV network was sold to Al Jazeera, and nevermind the huge block of Apple stock he was handed for pennies on the dollar.
Just what the country needs - another snake oil salesman.
The dems must really be in panic over PIAPS if they are dragging Al Gore name up as a potential nominee...
I believe that was Google stock.
Algore is on the BoD of AAPL
“Whom the gods would destroy....”
He'd have more reason NOT to run. His AGW/C fund scamming efforts would come under too much scrutiny. He's working his way to billionaire and that is way too many cheeseburgers for him to give up.
Thanks 2ndDivisionVet, best laugh all week!
AL baby is credible on globull warming. Stand for something, or fall for anything.
Gore is not qualified. Maybe it is innate or maybe it was the lead paint he dined on as a toddler in DC during the 50’s?
You beat me to it.
According to Wikipedia, Algore sits on the board of Apple and is a "senior advisor" to Google.
He cashed in on both of them.
A breath of fresh air. World’s largest Environmentalist at 350 lbs. Founding father of Junk Climate Science. A billionaire, a genius and Inventor. A all around great father and husband. A role model for future generations. Put your hands together, and release you second chakras, for the next President of the US ...Al Gore!
This author lost me at ‘Gore has credibility.’
Cruz would shred Gore
“Since Mike is building a mansion in Florida, I think youre right.”
What? Good ole boy Huck isn’t building his mansion on some lake in Arkansas? Joining the legions of those who are “from Arkansas” I guess :)
