In my humble opinion, what this Colin Kaepernick shtick is leading to is the eventual outright ban of the national anthem at sporting events. That's where the left-wing ESPN and NFL are taking this. Too political, they'll say. One of the few places where people bond together patriotically outside of the military, and the left is going to try to kill it. They may be successful.
It drives whole industries, like sports media and gambling and fantasy games. It’s bigger than every other US pro sport combined. It fits the current state of our popular culture to a “T.” It would actually be shocking if it wasn’t the most popular. I think they like to be in the media cycle over anything, except maybe about head injury over time and PEDs. Like I said, I bet the average NFL fan doesn’t really care enough to stop watching over something like this. We’ll see I guess.

Kaepernick would have been traded months ago if he was willing to renegotiate his contract.
I’m a huge football fan but as I’ve stated if this spreads around the league I’ll stop watching the N.F.L. and I truly mean that.
The police working security, and white people by default, because in his thought patterns, white people are the police.
Probably “Dosvidanya Rodina”
Your right of course. Funny how their side acts isn’t it, willing to do anything at all. However, as they erode and eventually destroy our constitution we do nothing ...
Let them protest. Let them ban the National Anthem from the NFL.
Then watch the FANS do their protest, both with their feet and their wallet.
Over & over Political Correctness oversteps and gets smacked down.
Let it play out.
As much as I love my Steelers. I am not going to watch ANY NFL games on TV or go to a game. When we are fed ANTI American garbage we must retaliate. Turning the garbage off works.
You should know this,... that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and UNGRATEFUL. They will consider nothing sacred.
What I find stunning is that multimillionaires like Kaepernick who live a life in this country unimaginable to 99.9% of every other human being who inhabitants this planet demonstrates his ungratitude by spitting on his countrymen and all who have gone before him and laid down significant sacrifice.
The ungratitude of these people is beyond galling, but perhaps unsurprising given the times we live in. Even Kap’s mom distanced herself from his actions.
That might be true in the coastal regions, but not in “flyover country.” The Seahawks players could probably get away with it given the demographics of the Seattle area, but try this stunt in Green Bay or Kansas City....
“Never, the backlash would be a financial disaster for both.”
You assume sports team owners do this for a living. For most, it is a hobby of the rich which nets them money to burn while giving them a great seat to the game.
If the NFL folded tomorrow, those 32 owners would move on and not even blink.
Well, I think the NFL really gets its bread from TV contracts. So if it makes folks quit watching, they will do something. If it doesn’t, they will probably just shrug and enjoy the free media attention the controversy brings them. I’m not really sure what % of revenue comes from actual attendance at games, but I bet it is dwarfed by the TV contract money.

Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame punk. You throw a little leather ball around and run up and down a field in tights. You are nothing but an ingrate.
Men much better and more noble then you fought and bled under our flag and our anthem. Their memory will never die.
If the players are on the NFL team clock getting paid, then they are on company time, and if the company says they stand for the National Anthem they stand or get fired.
Or they can clock out and leave the premises-forever.
The broadcast networks who depend on the NFL would not move on.
There are more of us than them. Why do we always lose??? We give up. Don’t even try. Why don’t the Koch brothers finance legal help?
I could be wrong, but the % of folks that will bother to contact actual businesses that advertise on TV during NFL product vs the % of folks that will just keep watching the product no matter what is probably pretty lopsided.
You could be right, though. We’ll see.

“The broadcast networks who depend on the NFL would not move on.”
Only in the song is suicide painless. The networks want the ratings without the responsibility. Boo freaking hoo. If a network has to fold because it relies on NFL revenue to survive, then placing their support behind a player who has no business making the game about himself is probably not a good business decision.
