Pelosi faces growing doubts among Dems after Georgia loss (Polutico)
Polutico ^ | John Bresnahan , Heather Caygle and Kyle Cheney

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats put a brave face on Wednesday morning after a disappointing loss in the Georgia special election, yet there is no disguising the unhappiness in the party ranks.

There is no challenge to Pelosi’s leadership, and none is going to happen at this point, said numerous Democrats. But it’s clear frustration is growing with the longtime Democratic leader following the extensive losses Democrats have suffered over the past half-decade.

And the fact that Republicans spent millions of dollars on TV ads tying Democratic hopeful Jon Ossoff to Pelosi — and the brand of progressive policies she represents — shows that she will once again be an issue for Democratic challengers in the very districts that the party needs to win to make her speaker again.

Some Democrats want to replace Pelosi atop their caucus, as they have since last November’s poor showing at the polls; they say there is no way to get back in the majority with her as their leader. And others who backed her in last year’s leadership challenge have now flipped their stance.

“I think you’d have to be an idiot to think we could win the House with Pelosi at the top,” said Rep. Filemon Vela (D-Texas), who supported Pelosi in her last leadership race. “Nancy Pelosi is not the only reason that Ossoff lost. But she certainly is one of the reasons.”

>>No matter the national view of Pelosi, her SF constituents will keep electing as long as she remains vertical.<<

Her passing won’t stop them. They will get a taxidermist to stuff her and put her on a motorized wheelchair. No one will know the difference.

The good news is that Nancy is addicted to power and will not go gracefully. With any luck the dems will pick up a couple of RINO seats in 2018 and she’ll be able to hang on - as ineffectual and toxic as ever.

I believe the Democrat Party donors are going to insist
that Pelosi, Hoyer and others be removed from power or
the funding will disappear. So I expect Pelosi and Hoyer
to be eased out of their leadership positions soon. When?
Hell, I don't know but it's going to happen.

Particularly Pelosi. She doesn't want to leave. Too much money from those
US Gov. contracts for her husband's companies will be lost. But she'll be given an ultimatum to step down soon enough. It'll be for the grand kids you know.

Tell your detractors to pound sand Nancy. You are right where you should be. Ride the DNC right into the ground.

i guess i don’t exactly understand why they’re scapegoating Nancy for these election losses. True, she’s a putz, but is she really the secret mastermind behind all DNC’s losing election strategy? I thought Tom Perez was the DNC chair, not Nancy.

her SF constituents will keep electing as long as she remains vertical.

Unfortunately, the same seems to be true of our Senior Senator, Di-Fi, not to be confused with Wi-Fi. I read in the local birdcage liner recently that she is actually thinking of running for re-election next year, even though she'd be 85 when the election happens.

I’m convinced that the only reason that Pelosi stayed on after 2016 was to prevent the Republicans from having the satisfaction of dispatching her. She wants to leave on her terms.

There is DEFINITELY huge screams to get her out. After this election (i.e., in Nov. 2017), every Democrat that runs will find himself portrayed as a Pelosi clone. The Dems are doing it behind closed doors, and just this little bit is leaking out - but the last thing they want to deal with are the commercials cloning them to her. THEY WANT HER OUT.

So how does she leave? My guess is that she soon announces her ‘retirement’ at the end of the term...but then pushes it up a bit - to August, 2018...in that way, the Republicans won’t have her around to clone as November 2018 nears, and she can still ‘claim’ that she wasn’t driven out, only that she moved up her ‘retirement’ date a bit.

Yep. She’s now poison and she definitely knows it too, and like I said, she only stayed on to try to prevent the Republicans from being able to claim to have driven her out. Now I don’t see her making it much past another year.
