Reporting from Western New York: gas price at my local gas station jumped $0.13 in the last 24 hours. I've never seen a hike that fast. Is anyone else seeing the same thing?
I already see gold prices shooting up. Is this gas price? Starting to catch up to it now?
Ours jumped a couple of days ago. Fast approaching $5 a gallon.
I don’t know how you have had a life of such bliss, but it is incredibly common for far larger jumps to occur, literally everywhere I’ve lived in my life.
I have never heard of someone with your situation.

Gold up at this moment about $60 an ounce since I checked it this mid-afternoon.
Silver up about 60 cents in the same period....
But they both usually jump up several dollars / cents when the Asian markets open. then it usually starts going down several dollars / cents a couple hours after the American markets open.
So, where Au and Ag are at about noon tomorrow will be a stronger indicator.

Regular is 3.16 at BJs and 3.35 at Kangaroo in Fayetteville NC. Virginia prices were above 3.40 Monday in the Roanoke VA and Martinsville areas,most prices were 3.50ish.

Thanks for the info. Many years ago, when I used to travel to do Civil War research between different states, and visit Civil War sites, once I left New York State, the gas was always cheaper.
Sudden gas hikes are the norm in California.
Refineries will shut down various units or sections of the plant every 3 to 5 years. They perform planned inspections and maintenance for roughly a month. Prior to shutting down, all sorts of inventory is backed up. Unplanned shutdowns can stress the markets locally, until things are fixed, or until outside supplies are shifted in.
To get ready for summer gasoline, inventories are purged or moved around, and a few knobs and settings are adjusted. The biggest cost impact, In winter, is use of cheaper components, mainly butane. These are needed to keep gasoline vapor pressure high enough from cold fuel tanks.
Around the beginning of the month prices there were price rises from around $3 per gallon to $3.59 at most stations. We had a month or so of price drops alternating between stations, so maybe there was a minor price war which one station finally gave up on when it hit $3, jacked up prices and the others followed (dare I say collusion?). I remember around the 3rd I found one station that was still $3.15 that I topped off at.
I used to have a station near my house that was always two days behind on increases, which was nice for a sudden big increase.
We jump all over the place up to 30 cents up or down daily for the most part... You can drive through town and then prices have changed by the time turn around and go back through.
Its all rigged.
