Talkers magazine Top Talk Hosts (Franken only 12.5 million behind Rush)
TALKERS Magazine website ^ | 11/08/05 | Talkers Magazine

List of top talk radio hosts (estimated audience) is up at TALKERS magazine. Al Franken comes in at #13, a mere 12.5 million fewer listeners than Rush.

The cutoff is one million, and, amazingly, a few "progressive" talk hosts made the cut. Not sure how accurate these figures are and, again, the likes of Franken, Schulz, and Steph Miller still lag way behind Rush, Hannity, Savage, Ingraham etc. (Note that these are TALKERS magazine estimates and are not necessarily the same as Arbitron ratings figures)

---------------------------------------- Still at the top is Rush Limbaugh followed by Sean Hannity, who again moved toward narrowing the gap between the two. Michael Savage remains a powerful force and Dr. Laura Schlessinger shows amazing resilience considering many news-talk stations’ realignment toward more politics and less relationships programming during the past year. Limbaugh and Hannity –– the nation’s leading political talkers –– showed some overall erosion since the prior survey, but a study of news-talk radio trends over the past 15 years indicates that this is common in the ratings periods immediately following an election year. More recent indicators over the summer show that both hosts, as well as political talk in general, are moving back up to their prior positions.

Hosts on the upward path include Neal Boortz, Mike Gallagher, Bill O’Reilly, Doug Stephan, Jerry Doyle, Bill Bennett, Ed Schultz, Tony Snow, Michael Medved and Dave Ramsey.

Making their first appearance on the survey are Al Franken, Alan Colmes and Stephanie Miller.

>>Hosts on the upward path

Of these, only one is liberal. Colmes and Miller, at #13,
make their first entries on the chart. If we're gonna have a talk host whose last name is Miller, why can't it be Zell!

That's probably a...er, conservative estimate, too! :)

For fun, add up all the millions for conservative talk hosts and compare it to the cumulative figures for Franken,
S. Miller, Colmes, and Schulz (4.75 to be exact). Do the math on the others. It isn't even close.

Randi Rhodes and several other Air SCAmerica hosts didn't
even make the cut.

That means that Tony needs to be on more stations. Call your program directors! (He's not on in Boston, for one)

I can't believe Stuart Smalley beat Phil Hendrie! Hendrie has talent.

Well, since 56 MILLION stupids voted for F'ning Kerry, I suspect there are a few with radios to listen to the DU crap. Not really surprising to me. They have to have some way of passing the time while they wait at home on the couch for the next free government hand out check.

Love him or hate him, Michael Savage has the most exciting show on radio.

A neurotic who could breakdown at any minute is pretty entertaining.

They only have Tony Snow reruns for three hours on Saturday in Chicago (WLS). And we have no Mark Levin. Darn!!

Hendrie needs to be on in more markets. He's not on in Boston, where I live. I suppose I could download his shows but instead I get 'tape traders' to send me cassettes. Just got one
of Phil from WREC in Memphis, from one tape trader.

I realize you're new here but it usually helps if you're going to respond to threads to actually say something. I notice this is the third thread you have responded with a period.

Anyway, Rush is still the man. Only person I make sure to listen to every day.

Boston's WTKK put Mark Levin on two nights in a row (6-7 pm
hour) as part of their ongoing "fill ins" for Jay Severin
(who is in the middle of a contract dispute...Jay will start a nationwide show in January that will be heard in Philly,
Detroit, St. Louis, etc., but they can't figure out if
Boston's affiliate will be WTKK or WBZ). Anyway, it was
fun to hear The Great One for those two nights but we
need him on full time!

Hannity is even playing Levin's voice at times as a sound file: "Get off the phone you big dope!"
