What a beautiful day the Lord has made! What a wonderful gathering of Freepers. The best people I know are Freepers ... and it regaled my soul to share a picnic with some of the best. Some drove from as far away as two and a half hours, others from within twenty minutes, but we had a great get together and even got to see Tea Party signs from Wednesday!
To those pinged to the original thread (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2198470/posts): we missed those who couldn't make it ... and there was plenty of food! [Poor New Jersey Bob missed some really tasty BBQ with goooood sauces, and a delectible sandwich ring made with egg bread!] Maybe next time, Friends. We even had entertainment ... well, sort of, if you consider two too liberal 'obamouses' in a pavillion full of conservative cats 'entertainment'. Yes, we had two Obamanoids there! I must confess I invited them because they're relatives who live in KNoxoville and were going to be in the area so I felt they could be sacrificed for Freeper practice.
Bert will be along soon to post a few pix from the event.
“Pinging you Diana, so you can see what you have to look forward to when you move to Tennessee.”
I am SO on it! :) When you guys get together next, know I will be there in spirit!
I’m so glad you all had a chance to do this! Thanks so much for sharing the pictures. :)
I have one local Freeper who keeps on promising to come visit me at the garden center...but so far, he hasn’t shown up. Or else he has and I’ve been busy with a customer or unloading a semi or toolin’ around on the forklift, LOL!
ga you make me blush...
:)
It was great to meet you and the rest..
We had a great day...
Great people, great food, a great host...
Thank you M...
:)
Let me tell you, that SMOKY barbeque sauce was the best — and this is coming from a person who has spent my entire life in the South, surrounded by barbeque (LOL, rubbing it in)!!!
Oh, MHG,I forgot to tell you. I was a little shocked when that guy got up and starting talking about the economy and how it has been long coming, but now we need to sacrifice (the Obamaniac).
You know, I am not an expert on economics, but I DID want to ask him what the Obama Apology Tour was all about. However, being a polite Southernor, I wouldn’t do that with a guest when I am a guest.
That was good bait, and good practice (LOL). If we are going to be standing up for this country in coming months and years, guess we need the practice.
We should invite these to every freeper meeting.
Glad that y’all had a good time. Weather was great here in Eastern TN, but I’m on night shifts this weekend. I’d have been there if I could have made it!
Why would FReepers invite an Obamamaniac to a FReeper picnic???
Signed, Puzzled in New Jersey
MHG explains it in an earlier post.
They were relatives, visiting the area.
They made good bait. A good angler should always study the predator AND prey. Fishing is not unlike life — success depends on knowing what the sought after fish needs/wants. So you present your bait, in a fashion to shatter the fish’s defenses, to make them eat what they need.
The liberals there were very nice people, like many I count among my dear friends/family.
Like I said, it was GOOD practice. If we are going to defend our country for the coming years, we need to do so nonconfrontational, when possible. A little education goes a long way.
We do NOT stoop to the level the radical left does, we eat a little barbeque with them, offer them some lettuce, greens, tomatoes, other things from our gardens, invite them to our “radical” meetings, show them what true compassion is (the left hijacked this long ago).
Then we live, and practice, what we preach. You’d be surprised how many hearts and minds can be changed just doing this.
One liberal (clueless person) at a time.
Besides, I enjoyed listening to MHG’s VERY sensitive, measured response. Like I said, if we are going to face these folks, we need to be armed (and I don’t mean guns). FACTS.
Well, maybe there will be another chance and we will certainly give you a shout
I am sooo jealous. Perhaps the next one we will be able to break away and join you.
I’m adding your name to the list of those who will be pinged for the next picnic of E.TN, SW.VA, W.NC gathering. BTW, the pavillion has one end on hinges, so it can be made into a stage for musicians ... my stepson had ETSU musician friends drop by once for a ‘spontaneous concert’. The wall was a dickens to get back in place, but it worked. There’s also space for tent or Moho camping, without water and electrical hookups, though. Hope you folks can make the next one.
I will write more later but I did want to say ‘the picnic was wonderful, food delicious, a gorgeous place to have a picnic and meeting more Freepers to love! Everyone was so nice...when you get a bunch of Freepers together, its like they’ve known each other forever. The pictures are good....and I haven’t got mine into the computer yet but will sometime today!
I am just so glad to get to meet all of you and I am sure we will meet again. Thanks for the hospitality of our very good host! Hope all of you have a nice restful day today...I plan to! (((Hugs)))
I’m sure Jim would like to see our pictures!! I must get busy now...just had breakfast and now have to clean up the mess...LOL!
Didn’t see your post to Jim...before I posted my last post!
Should have known! It was sure a fun day and I thank everyone who worked to get this picnic prepared!!
Thanks for the ping, Girl.
Looks like a great time was had by all. A fine group of FReepers in a beautiful setting and delicious looking food, how can it get any better? ;-)
Jaycee is right about all of us feeling like old friends even though we only met that day. Thank you for the kind remarks you made about me. Free Republic has been a very inspirational and educational resource for me. Jim Robinson has created a real wonder with this wonderful gathering place. I am truly humbled by the extraordinary minds that congregate here. I feel very privileged to be a part of Free Republic. Well, gotta go back to work on that second job that I told y’all about.
Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your post. You said it all so well and I ‘ditto’ everything. Free Republic gets in your blood and after you get addicted, there’s no turning back. Like I told someone at the picnic Saturday, I sometimes stay on F.R. too long and let my work go until it overwhelms me. I just don’t get my priorities in order....LOL!
I will usually take a break and get the house caught up but I would rather stay on F.R.!! What I need if a full time maid, so I can play all the time!! LOL!
The pictures will be coming before this day is over! Have a great day, everyone!
How wonderful you all were able to meet up and enjoy a day with each other! You look so very lovely, Jaycee! :) Thanks for the ping.
MHGinTN, I Love your Beautiful Place; it Looks a Lot Like the Area in which I Live. The Pic of the Neat Bridge Looks just Like a Place Near me, the King's Woods.
Thanks, friends, for coming to view the pictures. It really was a nice day, the weather was beautiful, the people were great AND what delicious barbeque it was!
wonderful!
I have met Bert before several times in DC for various things..
but dont recall the other folks..
so glad you did this.. and to think IF I had made the trip down to my son’s for Sunday get together I could have been with you Sat..
I love FReeper get togethers..
thanks so much for posting and for heads up. Always great to put a face/w name.
