Why do you perceive Communism to be evil (Mice on the Menu for Christmas- Enjoy Kitties)

OK, this is not a flame thread. I'm genuinely curious why conservatives think Communism is so evil.

I am a Communist. I am also a God-fearing Christian, a tax-paying and loyal American, and a generally nice guy. Communism was perverted by third world despots and was never implemented fully in its true form.

Communism is about cooperation and good will. And it's important to note that economic success and cooperation are not mutally exclusive. In fact, I would argue greater cooperation among individuals leads to more prosperity and more overall happiness.

BTW, have you ever met anyone who has survived the Cambodian killing fields? I have. If I had not been a hater of communism before then, I would have been one after that.

Did you know, wonderful good Christian guy, that less than 200 of our brothers and sisters in Cambodia were left alive out of tens of thousandswhen the Khmer Rouge got finished? Every place communism takes hold the people who love Christ are tortured and killed. That should be enough for you all by itself.

Oh, that's easy. Communism denies the value and worth of the individual. When the wants, needs, and the rights of the individual are placed behind the demands of "the state", freedom cannot exist, and regardless of whatever else it can be called, when people are not free, they are slaves. There is no in between.

That is not cricket, old chap. I prefer to fire live ammo at a breathing target. It's like hanging a dead squirrel from a tree limb - maybe slightly satisfying when you pull the trigger, but a waste of time and effort when the prey is already inert.

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

You don’t own your wife. Greed boils down to a desire for more possessions. Most people want newer, shinier, more efficient, better things then what they currently have, even those who claim they’re not greedy.

Of course. But I was speaking to how some desires have a similar vibe but one is natural and good and the other is destruction.

I think you're missing the line between greed and ambition. If I want to have a nice truck, that's self-interest. If I want to have three gold-plated trucks, that's greed. Where the line lies is an individual moral judgment, but there is a line. Gordon Gecko was full of crap.

Well, no offense, but that's really just you're opinion. Who decides nice? And do you really need a nice truck if you already have a vehicle?

I have had several discussions with OWS type people. They tell me how greedy the top 1% is and how we need to impose massive taxes on companies who outsource so the bottom 99% can get a bigger chunk of the wealth. I always point out that those outsourced jobs go to poor people who don't have running water, gas, electricity, etc., and by their standards, the OWS bunch are extremely greedy for wanting more so they could buy a new iPhone at poor peoples' expense. Those outsourced jobs mean regular meals, electrical grids, gas lines, and sewer systems in 3rd World countries

'Tis all relative, my friend.

No offense in return, but can you read? Why would I say it was an individual moral judgment if I believed that I was expressing an absolute truth that applied to all people in all situations?

'Tis all relative, my friend.

Not really. Moral relativity has no validity at all, notleast because it contradicts itself by making the individual as the moral arbiter an absolute every bit as absolute as "Thou shalt not commit adultery." As far as the poor benefiting from outsourcing goes, that's very true, but it leads to an answer for your question about trucks. If I can buy one used Ford and support five third world kids through Compassion, but the three gold plated trucks will keep me from even dropping a buck in the Salvation Army kettle, then there's good I'm leaving undone just so I can have three gold plated trucks instead of one truck that's painted red or blue.

The difference between conservatives and the OWS types is that they believe that it's society's job to not only keep me from buying the gold plated trucks, but to decide where my charity money goes. The conservative view is not that there is no moral component in spending and acquisition, it's that the morality of it is between the person and their God, not between them and their government.

Yes. I've responded multiple times in this thread, right? ;)

What if you can get by with less then the used Ford and help 10 kids in a 3rd world country? The Communist would call you greedy. In their world, anything more then meeting a need is greed.

So what? The commies also say I'm not a slave if the state owns everything and that if you kill the Romanov kids in a basement that's just what they deserved.

The important thing here is that there is greed and there is self-interest that isn't greedy. Saying that there's not a line either makes greed good--which is amoral and violates common sense--or makes legitimate self-interest into an evil. Both feed into anti-free market mentalities.
