ELLENSBURG -- From Bigfoot to the disappearance of D.B. Cooper, the Pacific Northwest is full of mysteries. Another mystery burred deep in the hills of eastern Washington keeps resurfacing.

Ellensburg and its surrounding valleys and Manastash Ridge are beautiful in any season.

Some believe what lies beneath is a deep, dark hole with supernatural powers.

A man named Red Elk is one of the only people alive known to have ever seen the mysterious hole.

So, Freerepublic has become a site for wacked-out mysticism and hocus-pocus?

You've been here since '98, right? Don't you remember those days? We had chemtrails/black helicopter threads and all kinds of weirdness. I kinda miss it sometimes. :-)

chemtrails threads were/are some of the best.

One of the absolute best threads, though, was started by some poor, drunk guy on a Saturday night. It was hilarious.

You bring up a good point. If a hole is bottomless, it leaves Earth and goes into space, where it automatically becomes infinite.

Oh. I hear “Also Sprach Zarathustra” playing in the background.....

Been here since August of ‘97 actually.

I remember a guy named Michael that posted bizzare stuff all the time until he rode the lightning a few times.

Problems with dropping a line with a weight too. Upon reaching the center of the earth, it would stop “falling”. Although at that depth you wouldn’t be able to feel it if it did stop.

If the Indian is telling the truth with his lifesavers trick (a good idea!) - if that is all that he had on the line, after 300’ it very well could have hit the dry bottom of the hole and he would not have noticed it hit bottom. (The weight of the line being more than the lifesavers at that point.)

What I was trying to insuate is that Helen Thomas' underpants are already covering a bottomless hole... wait, that doesn't sound right either. Never mind.

Id rather close the book on that chapter of my life. Look forward instead of back. Although a book about it would make some money. Wouldn’t know whether to classify it in the Science Fiction section or Natural Wonders of the Universe.

Now the question who, is anyone can find Mel's Hole and prove its existence?

Sounds like a job for Barney Frank...

It's a Wendy's commercial called 'Hole'... weird:

A crowd of people is running towards and jumping in to a giant hole in a field.
Running in the crowd is a man wearing a red wig with pigtails, like the girl in the Wendy's logo.
While running he notices something isn't right and is "a little creepy".
He notes that the people around him aren't thinking straight.
He goes on to think that burgers shouldn't sit around in a warming tray because it will end up dry.
He states out loud that burgers should sizzle off the grill and be made to order.
Several other people rally around him and begin to run away from the hole.
