Maybe she was lonely, but she also was cashing his checks. Not sure her story about loneliness is believable... unless she made herself believe it.

She just wanted a corpseman to keep her company.

She may not have been certifiably crazy but she was WIERD by any standards.

When I was little, my best friends’ parents had childless friends who came to visit and brought “Witty Bear” with them every time. Witty Bear was a stuffed animal who had to sit at the table and slept with them.

Desperate loneliness? Is a dog or cat too messy or what?

Indeed there was...

Desperate loneliness? I guess the appeal was that WB didn’t shed like a cat or dog.

If he was a true NASCAR fan, the alcohol would have preserved him quite nicely!

How else was she supposed to buy beer for them if she didn’t cash his check$?

Aaahhh, Jackson Michigan where I was born & raised. Sad story, but I have to laugh a bit too. This is exactly the kind of story that WOULD put Jackson in the news.

Oh well, still the birthplace of the Republican Party at least. (sigh)

Also the largest walled prison in the US at one time, not sure about that anymore since the talk of closing it.

I know the feeling. No matter how immobile I try to remain while watching TV, my wife insists on talking to me.

"Dude had himself a good woman there."

She certainly stuck by him. Or could it be that she was just waiting for him to "ripen?"
