North Korea Missile Test Delayed By Windows 8, Kim Jong-Un To Declare War On Microsoft?

/snip

The New Yorker is claiming the North Korea missile test was delayed by Windows 8 since previously their computers were running on Windows 95. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says they are “working with Windows 8 support to resolve the issue” and the North Korea missile test has “been delayed indefinitely.” It’s said “Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un is furious about the Windows 8 problems” and may declare war on Microsoft.

You are right. They may have had some idea about their end-game. Whatever it was, it was lost, and now they put themselves into a situation they cannot come out of without paying some price one way or another.

Well, that could take a while.

(And here I never thought I could have any sympathy for a psychotic communist dictator.)

Little Known Dirty Secret to upgrade to Windows 8 without buying a brand spanking new system which really angers Microsoft because the software is available and it is made by Microsoft.

Update Windows XP Operating System Platform with Windows 8.

Hey I purchased a used sony vaio that had been modified with upgrades to go to Windows 7 for around 250.00. Bought Windows XP/ Windows 8 software upgrade for 69.00. I took the computer system to a computer service center (independent). with a 30.00 change in CPU processor the computer cost for doing the necessary tweaks - total 250.00.

Computer works great and it is Sony Vaio that would cost 1800.00 new instead 569.00 computer.

But be careful we cannot let the North Koreans know this dirty little secret of computer upgrades. Since truthfully Windows 95 has not worked since 2002. But North Korea does not know that either because Kim Jong whatever his first name is more concerned with his Blackberry and his Ipod that he got from Dennis Rodman - a gift from obama and all obama’s speeches. the only problem is that it only works in Zone 1.

Perhaps we should classify NK as a variant of a cargo cult?

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargo_cult
A cargo cult is a kind of Melanesian millenarian movement encompassing a diverse range of practices and occurring in the wake of contact with the commercial networks of colonizing societies. The name derives from the apparent belief that various ritualistic acts will lead to a bestowing of material wealth (”cargo”)

They have ritualistic acts: moving missiles back and forth in the hope that it will bring material wealth. Below I take the text from Wikipedia with my comments in brackets:

Cargo cults are marked by a number of common characteristics, including a ‘myth-dream’ [Juche] that is a synthesis of indigenous and foreign elements [Marxism]; the expectation of help from the ancestors [Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il]; charismatic leaders; and lastly, belief in the appearance of an abundance of goods.[Communistic paradise]

Since the modern manufacturing process is unknown to them, members, leaders, and prophets of the cults maintain that the manufactured goods of the non-native culture have been created by spiritual means, [Capitalism] such as through their deities [Adam Smith, Milton Friedman etc.] and ancestors. These goods are intended for the local indigenous people, but the foreigners [Western countries] have unfairly gained control of these objects through malice or mistake. Thus, a characteristic feature of cargo cults is the belief that spiritual agents will, at some future time, give much valuable cargo and desirable manufactured products to the cult members.

Never thought about NK from this angle. The current N. Korean state does behave like that. In particular, this is way NK regime wants its people to convince. Goods and sustenance will be provided by the state only. They are extorted from foreigners, the regime proudly proclaim that their might overwhelmed cowardly enemies to pay tribute. Its people should be eternally grateful, and hail Kim family as gods who can work this miracle. Again and again.

This is why NK regime wages war on markets. It is direct attack on their cult. People do not have to believe cargo cult if they can get what they want from the market. At one point(around 2005~6,) markets in NK are taking roots. There were even underground commerical package delivery service all over the country. Somebody outside send money or a letter. It enters into a network of couriers, from Sino-NK border all the way into the heartland of NK, after changing hands several times. They can get something out of NK, too. Letters, secret internal documents, and even people. Of course, the markup is high, but the system was reliable. Kim Jong-il's all-out war on market naturally destroy the network.

“‘myth-dream’ [Juche] that is a synthesis of indigenous and foreign elements [Marxism]; the expectation of help from the ancestors [Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il]; charismatic leaders; and lastly, belief in the appearance of an abundance of goods.[Communistic paradise]”

This could apply to our own Obama:

Replace the Juche Myth-dream with Socialism/one world government.

Ritualistic senseless behavior?: Gun control, Obamacare, global warming...

Foreign element remains Marxism, but adds Islam, and the Muslim Brotherhood.

The ancestors?: Dreams from My Father, MLK, Rosa Parks...

Charismatic leaders?: Obama

Abundance of goods? That would be what they are experiencing now with deficit spending graft and corruption on a grand scale. The mythic element is that it can go on forever.
