The magnetic north pole has moved 161 miles in 6 months only, this puts its arrival in Siberia in less that 2 years, and it is when it arrives there that it will have migrated 40 degrees across the northern hemisphere at this point the poles will shift at high speed over the equator until it reaches 40 degrees south, i will tell you what i expect to happen when it goes past the 40 degrees point in the coming uploads...

The poles periodically reverse. According to deep sea core studies the last time it happened was 780 thousand years ago. Nobody really knows for certain what the effect would be or whether this unusually rapid movement (the magnetic pole is not at all related to the rotational pole) means it's about to happen again.

If the strength of the magnetic field is substantially reduced during the shift it could mean higher exposure levels to high energy particles. It's not BS but it is something over which humans have absolutely no influence or control. Although I don't doubt Al Gore will blame America and try to find a way to make a few million bucks off it.

They’re pulling your leg. The magnetic North Pole is always moving and always at a different than the location of the Earth’s North Pole axis of rotation. The location of the sunrise is and sunset are governed by the location of the axis of rotation and not by the location of the magnetic North Pole. The location of the Earth’s North Pole axis is constantly changing slowly due to precession of the axis of rotation.

I believe it in the possibility. Contemplating it used to scare the crap out of me, especially when I got to high school physics.

Pretend that the planet is a spinning ball in the frictionless vacuum of space, to which additional mass is continuously being added in a somewhat random distribution, and the surface mass of this spinning ball is constantly changing as water mass is being redistributed via weather patterns. (For example, consider how deep they had to dig to recover the P-38 Glacier Girl.)

At some point, this spinning ball/mass will change enough to overcome the gyroscopic inertia of its current equilibrium.

Perhaps there will be an increase in the wobble to forewarn, but whether gradually or suddenly, the spinning ball of mass will alter and its axis of rotation and equator will change to whatever the physics dictate.

Now that is a pole shift. Hang on tight!
