vanity: What Would You Send into Outer Space?

Posted on 01/10/2015 7:53:24 PM PST by Jamestown1630

This is a vanity; a whimsy that I came up with tonight.

IF you were going to send a rocket into outer space, that included a little package containing all of the things that YOU wanted to preserve for posterity and communicate to extraterrestrials that might be out there, What would you send?

I thought of a few things; not a complete list by far, and not in any particular order (except for the first four ;-)

1. The Holy Bible - OT, NT, Tanakh

2. The Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution of the United States of America

3. The Magna Carta

4. The Pledge of Allegiance (including the 'UNDER GOD' part!)

5. All of Shakespeare

6. A video of Ronald Reagan saying "Tear Down This Wall!"

7. Bobby Hatfield singing 'Unchained Melody'

8. Anything that Julia Child or Red Skelton or Victor Borge, did on TV

9. The latest edition of 'The Joy of Cooking'. (In case they want to cook for man, instead of 'Serving Man')

10. A copy of Dickens', 'A Christmas Carol', and videos of all the movies that have been made of the story.

Carry On!

Thank You; those are the sort of things that I was looking for.

And, thank you for including statuary; another thing that I should include in my list, is the Adams Memorial by St. Gaudens, in Washington, DC.

My father attended the church where the statue is, when he first came to DC from Virginia, as a boy in the early years of the 20th century. The statue is a big memory in our family; and it’s a very misunderstood work of art.

When you sit in front of this statue, there is nothing but peace in your mind and heart. It’s beautiful.

Bill Clinton, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Bill De Blasio, Jerry Brown, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Barbara Lee,Maxine Waters, the Sanchez sisters, I have two questions before I finish my list what’s the weight limit of the payload and is it non returnable?

Since we may have well destroyed the little blue planet by the time the aliens find the little space module - a warning package containing things we USED to read in school and anything that might warn them to be aware of the dangers of totalitarianism, dictatorships, socialist slimes and all their evils:
1984 by Orwell
Fahrenheit 451 by Bradbury,
Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged,
Solzinitzin’s works (can’t remember the spelling at the moment),
The Federalist papers,
The Constitution,
The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich,
Rush Limbaugh’s Limbaugh letters,
Mark Levin’s Ameritopia and other works,
Mark Steyn’s America Alone and other works,
David Horowitz’s and Front Page Mag’s works...

Be forewarned! This is what happened to our world and why this is all that is left of us (no pun intended)...

Guess I’m in a dark mood this evening.

This is imaginary, Darling. Any payload, whatever.

But, Since I’m the Captain, I’d appreciate only ideas and ideals boarding this ship; not particular ‘flesh’ entities that you happen to dislike. This is for ideas, from people who want to SAVE ideas, ideals, and other imaginal Stuff!

Well, a lot of your list constitutes ‘cautionary tales’.

But I think you’re being too pessimistic.

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

It would all be meaningless gibberish to an intelligent life form from another planet.

A Colt 1911A1 and a box of ammo, the solution to so many problems :)

An evil-minded race of ETs would copy them and wipe each other out...a good one would use them to eliminate any evil in its midst...

Anyone who finds the last paragraph unrealistic...hey, we’re talking about shipping stuff to ETs....

First I thought garbage and then I thought the same as you. Logical progression, eh?

Don't feel bad. I originally thought it was a potted geranium but had the feeling that I should check to make sure.

I'm glad I did.

Yeah..they are cautionary tales. I dunno, we seem to be hurtling toward extreme badness. Yes I’m pessimistic. But there’s a place for optimists too. Stay the course either way!

The husband unit here indicates that the Intergalactic Mice may have something to say about that, because they didn’t know what the question was :-)

I’ve got the Helprin, and it looks beautiful; I read the first chapter and put it away for retirement - which is coming up soon :-) It requires more attention than I have at present.

The band? not so much.....don’t like that kind of music.
