Investigations are taking place at the Castle into the cause of the blaze.

I'm going to guess it was a burning cannonball.

The Earl won’t be launching a boat any time soon.

Was it a “hot shot”?
It was sometimes done where a red hot cannonball
was fired to start a conflagration.

The article says “burning” and a witness said “flaming.”

Of course, the same witness said the event was “quite scary” to children, when a better observer would have said “quite a lot of fun.” There’s nothing kids enjoy more than a good fire.

Full flames seem to be the normal. Part of the show. Just being hot wouldn't excite the tourists.

Somehow the movie THE WAR LORD with Charlton Heston comes to mind.

I don’t know why this building is referred to as “medieval” when it was built in 1896. Looks like it was a very attractive thatch roof that was lost, though.

Well how accurate do you have to be to hit the broadside of a castle?

“quite scary” to children....

The adult wimped out and bricked it, as the kids rushed forward with bangers on sticks. :)

The historic boathouse, which was destroyed in the blaze, dates back to 1896 when the 5th Earl, Frances Greville, had it built to house an electric boat which he powered by batteries charged from the electricity generated by the castle's mill.

1896 is medieval? Built in the style of a medieval boathouse, maybe. Been to Warwick castle, the trebuchet show is quite a sight.

Warwick Castle is a great place. Glad it was only the boat house.
