When a drafting table has had a protection artboard on it for a month...and it's in my house... it's going to need to be replaced.

And this is what it looks like.

For about 15 minutes.

And that's the lesson on housekeeping from a single guy. ;)

I won't spend much time on today except to say that the radiation part went well, and the HEMO/ONC part went horrible. I will get it sorted out, even if I have to stand on people's desks.

Glad to see you posting. I've been taking extra time out periodically today to send prayers up for you. "God is love," the bible says over and over, and so God is definitely all around you because you, my man, are much LOVED by fellow FReepers.

From a personal point of view, I'm especially grateful to Him for putting you in my path. Your words here on FR have, as much as anyone here, illuminated so many things for me. I've never met you, never gripped your hand in greeting, yet you are an important presence in my life. God really works His wonders in the most amazing of ways. LOVE transcends everything ... which makes sense when one remembers that God is love.

Cyber hug.

We have a new Weber gas grill but for burgers and sides, I like to use the Weber charcoal kettle.

Our local butcher shop has flat iron steaks ( a small shoulder beef roast) that is very tasty. I put the veggies in the middle with the coals on either side and place the beef directly over the coals.

As with many endeavors, timing is everything...

Spring is here and we will be picking our first Strawberries in the next couple of days. These plants were new last year. We have been doing weed patrol this week plus more spading and greenhouse duties ~

Mrs. Outrider (born and raised here in MN) tells me it is not unusual for it to snow in June! I followed her to the Rez back in ‘09 and have seen heavy white stuff in May... Heaven forbid it this year! (Even though we could use some more precipitation up here, like most of the U.S....)

Thanks for the update, Marcella.

A round of chemo; another round of prayers: repeat as needed!

And H.D. prayers will really be needed, if they continue to clock out & lock up before his doses are fully administered. I thought he was in Texas, not using the British NHS...or is he stuck with the V.A.?

That looks kinda like my desk calendars used to look, so I don’t buy them any more. I just keep a little pocket calendar and throw a steno tablet on the desk instead.

Finally have a minute.

Counted 100 garlic sprouts so far, and a dozen shallots. Wind did in my leek transplants, so I replant another batch of seedlings. 40 or so over-wintered bulbing onions are thriving, after I split & transplanted as necessary; the walking onions are more like joggers. LOL

Trenched in 2 elderberries, 2 gooseberries, and 4 raspberries, until I get a chance to plant them permanently. I also have 2 apricot seedlings that I sprouted 3 seasons ago; having survived their second winter in pots, it’s time to get them into the ground, too.

Spotted our first strawberry blossoms yesterday, and cut our first asparagus today. At least 21 rhubarb are coming along. Some are ancient, predating us on the property; others are young transplants where others had died.

The wild plums are solid with flowers, and the apple blossoms are starting to open. The Carmine Jewel cherry is also starting to bloom, and will again be loaded.

3 hens are sharing 2 nests, with an unknown number of eggs under them; going into the third week week, so it won’t be long until I either have some chicks, or am burying rotten eggs. Bunnies were just shy of 5 pounds, so have at least another week before I can quit feeding them, and let them start feeding us.

Well, we are not buying another grill this year. We'll just have to figure it out. If nothing else we'll use our home made fire pit.

We had some huge boulders when they dug our basement and some smaller ones. It would have cost too much to haul them off, so they just pushed them down the hill and they were all in kind of a circle.

Our kids used to climb around and play on them all the time. Hubby was afraid that snakes might lurk there, so he poured some exposed agate all around them.

That left a center of grass. The concrete company had some suitable rock sitting around, and when Hubby inquired on the cost - they just threw it in to his order for free.

So he put down the bed of what looks like reddish brown lava rocks. Plopped down a sturdy grate, and we had ourselves a council ring. All that's needed is a tepee.

So we sometimes take our hot-dogs, and what ever out to the council camp fire and use Sassafras limbs for roasting sticks. Use some of the rocks to sit on, and with some chips, potato salad, and baked beans - who need charcoal? Then we do dessert - some mores naturally.

Easy on the cook, and clean up is a breeze. LOL

The kids love it.

Hubby’s strawberries were neglected last year after harvest. We are not expecting much from what is left. He’s got to work on it and maybe get some runners later on to fill in the bare spots.

These are beautiful - I’ll have to show him your set up. Is that chicken wire around rebar? He’s been using netting, but the squirrels are barely deterred, and they seem to have wised up with respect to the live traps.

I believe it. That’s the way it was in S. Dakota. We stayed there for 1 year, while Hubby got his Master’s degree. I couldn’t wait to get back to Missouri.

The first snowfall was 21 inches late Sept. or early Oct. and it stayed the whole winter with storm after storm piling up. It was up to our windows on the trailer. I went out to get the mail one day and was walking along way up in the air on top of the snow.

Leaned over and reached down to open the mail box, and the crust broke and I sunk down to my shoulders in the snow bank. Thought I was going to freeze before I could get out of the danged thing.

The snow didn’t even begin to think about melting until long about the end of June.

That all sounds so wonderful. Funny you mention the bunnies. I was exploring stuff on Local Harvest. We have our beef and now I’m looking for some pastured poultry (already processed) to buy.

So I found a family farm the next town over who has poultry, eggs, raw milk, rabbits, and rabbit poo. It says they have a farm store and gives directions, and also indicates that they are at the Farmer’s Market starting in May.

I plan to call next week and verify what they are selling right now, what sort of feed they are using, and get some chickens, backs and necks, a rabbit and some poo. I haven’t eaten rabbit since I was a kid. Best I remember it tastes a lot like chicken.

If I decide to get the milk, to make butter and yogurt, I’ll probably have to go out to the farm. Missouri law prohibits distribution of raw milk, unless something has changed. However you can buy it directly from the farmer, if you go to their farm.

Sounds excellent! We had a huge crop of it this year and one of my favorite ways was to grill using coconut oil. Some doesn’t have much taste but I use the stuff with a distinct coconut flavor. Funny thing is I’m not much of a coconut fan with the flavor on asparagus (and popcorn) is one of my favorites.
