Serious Question for Cruz Supporters (VANITY)
04/14/2016 | Les Dowrey

Posted on 04/14/2016 12:42:16 PM PDT by LesDowrey

If Ted Cruz were to win the GOP Nomination on the 2nd ballot or further down the line, he will have won the GOP nomination based on STOPPING Trump, not SUPPORTING Ted. That's not really a great way to win is it? Also, if he couldn't beat Trump at the ballot box, how will he beat Hillary?

Oooh. That one’s gonna leave a mark!

Thanks for answering the question. Great point! So- what does the GOP do to win?

In my opinion if the convention doesn’t go for the 1st Place guy (Trump) then they have to hit the reset button and pick a completely different candidate altogether.

Also- is it possible that Trump rallies enough of the White Working class to completely change the electoral process? There’s still more white working class males than anyone else. If they all vote for him...possible win? Or just wishful thinking...

>> Cruz can’t win. Period. He has absolutely NO appeal outside of a very narrow segment of conservatives. He’ll get no support from anyone else. Hillary will win a 49-50 state landslide. <<

Well, Trump, Roger Stone, Drudge, Breitbart, the National Enquirer, etc. have pulled Cruz’s numbers down considerably, but he still is in a statistical dead heat in most polls with Hillary. Trump, meanwhile, loses by double digits. So the electability issue is a bizarre one for Trump supporters to be using.

And yes, Trump’s repeated claims that “lots of polls” show him with a “yuge” lead over Hillary Clinton are just simply, flat-out lies.

Now a follow up question for cruzites, followers of Lyin' Cheatin' Rafael, teddie, Cruz. Are you willing to fight, kill and if needs be die for your guy?

No, I'll vote for Trump if he beats Cruz, because I'm not a psycho with an absolutely bizarre messianic idolatry for a politician.

You people are seriously demented. Willing serfs, begging for a loving boot on your neck. Or are you dumb enough to imagine that Trump will let you be the boot?

If he is first place, he should win. If they don’t give it to first place, then it should go to someone else (an outsider or consensus candidate who was not a part of the process.) That’s my perspective. You can’t give it to second or third place. Forgive me, but in my America, first place wins. If Cruz gets first place, he should win. If Trump gets first place, he should win. What happened to Cruz saying that the only way to beat Trump was at the ballot box?

No, Kasich as of now is mathematically eliminated from getting the majority of delegates.

He should be out of the race and Cruz people should be demanding he go as well.

But the silence is now deafening from the Cruz side because they know they will soon be mathematically eliminated as well.

Which means the only reason either one is still in the race is to stop Trump from getting the number of the delegates and force a convention fight which goes against the spirit of the primary system.

Candidates run in primaries with the tacit agreement to step aside if they are eliminated, not continue to fight it out until the convention, which is why we have primaries, to avoid those kind of fights.

Neither is Obama, but no one really cares anymore. Reagan was unpopular with the establishment and for that matter so was Kennedy. The story out now is that if Trump has 1100 delegates he’s in. That should be doable. Everyone likes a winner

“That’s not really a great way to win is it?”

No.

“Also, if he couldn’t beat Trump at the ballot box, how will he beat Hillary?”

He’s doing better in the polls against Hillary than Trump. I choose to support the proven conservative who understands the Constitution and how the government works. I would have preferred Walker, but Cruz is the best that’s left. I understand why Trump supporters try to force others to get on the Trump train, but I see him as I see any other self-serving lib. Why would I choose that over a conservative?

Exactly.

I might suggest ALL Freepers read Jim Rob’s important article from last night:

And in true Alinskyite fashion, there's a group of them who keep insisting that Cruz supporters are fanatical.

The freaking loon who wrote that doesn't even stand out as odd in his trumpster peer group!

At this point Trump has won about a third of the GOP vote. Cruz has won about 28%. That leaves about 45%

<><><><><

No critique other than your math skills. 37 + 28 = 65, leaving 35%.

The rules have never been the one who gets closest wins. Trump supporters should be upset with him because he refuses to play the game as it is set before him. Instead he whines and complains that Trump is “stealing” delegates. If Trump can’t win at politics, he will never be able to be an effective president.

And yes, Trump’s repeated claims that “lots of polls” show him with a “yuge” lead over Hillary Clinton are just simply, flat-out lies.

First of all, with respect to "double digits", you're behind the times, because there was a recent "hypothetical matchup" poll which showed a neck-and-neck race between Trump and Hillary.

But that's beside the point, because all such "push polls", 7 months out, before the conventions, no matter who is "ahead", are total garbage, and they are known to be ball everyone in the industry.

They are intended to manipulate public opinion, as opposed to reporting on it.

They are "boob bait for bubbas". The same polls back in 1980 had Reagan 25 points behind Carter at this juncture.

Knowing this, you choose to cite them as if they have have some relevance to who is actually a viable general election candidate?

It's ludicrous to base one's vote upon such clumsy and feeble propaganda.

Now, as for Cruz's numbers being pulled down: what about all the other news organizations which hammer at Donald Trump in a totally slanted way 24/7/365?

To pretend that Cruz's media treatment has been harsh, versus Trump's, is patently absurd. Cruz has been treated like a veritable snowflake thus far!

Whether it's popular vote, key states, voter enthusiasm, outside status, or demographic factors, Ted Cruz just can't get it done.

And Donald Trump will at least try...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_primaries_in_the_United_States

“Opponents of the open primary believe that the open primary leaves the party nominations vulnerable to manipulation and dilution. First, one party could organize its voters to vote in the other party’s primary and choose the candidate that they most agree with or that they think their party could most easily defeat. Secondly, in the open primary moderates and independent voters can vote in either party. This occurrence may dilute the vote of a particular party and lead to a nominee who does not represent the views of his or her particular party.

For example, in the 2008 presidential primaries, exit polls say John McCain failed to win a single race among Republican voters, up to Super Tuesday, yet during that same period he went from also-ran to front runner, because most non-Republicans who crossed over voted for him. In New Hampshire, Mitt Romney won among registered Republicans, but John McCain won overall [1]. Likewise, in South Carolina, Mike Huckabee won among self-identified Republicans, but John McCain won the state [2].

Similarly, some Republican advocates called for Republicans to cross over and vote in the Democratic race, to help Barack Obama win, on the premise that Clinton had a better chance of beating their candidate. The Rush Limbaugh Show’s “Operation Chaos” is the best known of these movements.”

States with open primaries...
Alabama
Arkansas
Georgia
Illinois
Indiana
Massachusetts (All races’ primaries open for “unenrolled”/unaffiliated voters only)
Michigan
Mississippi
Missouri
New Hampshire
North Carolina (All races’ primaries open for unaffiliated voters only)
North Dakota
Ohio
Oklahoma (Only Democratic primary is open to Independent voters as of November 2015) [11]
South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas
Vermont
Virginia
Wisconsin[12]

IMHO Democrats voting in open primary states chose the 2008 & 2012 Republican nominees.

Moral to the story?

1) Just because Trump is winning primaries does not mean he’s the choice for Republicans (he may be the #1 choice for Democrats trying to pick our nominee AGAIN).

2) Since this happened in 2008 and 2012 ... are we going to ignore that it appears to be happening again in 2016?

3) https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2016/03/02/so-far-trump-wins-open-primaries-and-cruz-wins-closed-and-the-calendar-is-starting-to-change-toward-more-closed-primaries/
