Why has FR turned on Cruz?
vanity | today | me

Posted on 05/02/2016 2:30:43 PM PDT by bassmaner

I'll keep this vanity short ... Mods: please feel free to pull it if it's inappropriate.

Why have so many here on FR turned on Ted Cruz in such a vicious way?

We cheered when we first heard about Ted taking on the establishment in TX to win the primary in the race to fill Kay Bailey Hutchison's vacated Senate seat, in a bad year for the GOP

We cheered again when Ted exhorted us to 'Stand With Rand' when he offered public support for Rand Paul's filibuster over the NDAA

Once more, we cheered when he stood on the Senate floor and urged his colleagues to join him and use the power of the purse to kill Obamacare

We nodded our collective heads in approval when he openly and correctly called Mitch McConnell a liar

And we jumped for joy when he became the first GOPer to announce a presidential run!

So ... what happened? Yes, Trump announced. But at first, not too many people took him seriously. For the longest time, there seemed to be an unspoken pact between Trump and Cruz, where they occasionally said nice things about each other while bashing the other candidates.

But ever since the voting began and Trump turned on Cruz (starting with the Ben Carson imbroglio in Iowa), a large contingent of FReepers did the same and seem to be echoing RINOs like John Boehner and Peter King in their absolute abhorrence of Cruz.

Yes, we need to choose sides, but for God's sake, can't we send that kind of vitriol in the direction that it belongs, ie. Hildabeast and the 'Rat Party, and knock off the circular firing squad?

Trump is as much a Christian as Hillary... they both share the same father. It doesn’t matter which one becomes POTUS. The chance we had to restore America in the eyes of God is being squandered by poisoning the minds of those who would have supported Cruz.

Unquote

For me a lot of the folks who invest Cruz with some aura of holiness put me off. The man has repeatedly lied about Trump in the election, misrepresenting his points. That is bearing false witness and anyone who does that cannot be on the holy side, sorry the ends do not justify the means, no matter how much we want it.

Proof of same:

Now had Cruz gone out and said that despite Trumps stated positions he believes trump would not follow through based on.... that would be fine. Further the crowd who thinks Cruz sits on the left hand of Jesus refuse to acknowledge the sainted one (Cruz) is a liar.

The best defense I have heard of Cruz’s lies is that as a lawyer he is trained to argue his side of any issue to the best of his ability. it is not up to him to ensure the other dies I fairly represented, that is their problem. Fai enough but if you go around making like you are a very religious person and you are in fact a lawyer who has no principle they are willing to stand on, rather the standard is victory at all costs...well whose side are you on, G-ds or the prince of this world?

Cruz has done this all himself.

Every Trump supporter I know recognizes that he is not perfect, and many have outright criticized certain things he’s said and done. That’s not seen with Cruz supporters. They present him as perfect, and for the longest time people who didn’t agree were accused of being liberals.

If Cruz supporters could view him more objectively and realistically it would be a big help. For example, I’ve taken valuable time to lay out a couple of Cruz’ more blatant lies. The reaction of his supporters is just sick. They rationalize, minimize, attack, change the subject, go full bore Alinsky, and on and on. Not one, ever, has conceded that Cruz does lie. Not one. Ever.

That approach actually hurts your candidate. People don’t trust you if you can look at clear cut, factual evidence and brush it aside.

Of course the biggest help of all would be for Cruz to stop lying. Given his MO so far, that’s unlikely.

Short answer. . .no, FReepers can’t help themselves.

Correct. The FReepers who can't get past the failure of the GOPe/Cruz campaign, and can't suspend their systematic demonization of Donald Trump.

Those are the ones who can't help themselves, so they lash out in their desperation and denial.

Vote Trump

Ted's fought the good fight.

No, he's done a good job making it look like he is fighting, however, in the end, he will side with maintaining his power & $$$, period. Given the choice between the American voter and doing what is politically expedient, or what his sponsors want him to do, he will choose the latter. sCruz is a heckuva guy, but in the end, when all else is peeled away, he is a typical career politician, beholden not to the people who elected him, but to his uniparty masters and corporate sponsors.

Why can’t Cruz answer a simple question about whether or not he’ll support Trump if he’s the nominee?

because he won’t. he will go third party, or ask for write ins from his “face of God” followers. Ted meets the requirements for being a false prophet. Yeah... I vote for him as that office... he wears it well.

Gang of 8 - There was no magic “poison pill”. The only reason it failed is because Cantor lost. It passed the senate 68 - 32. I always accepted the “poison pill” excuse until I searched myself. We were that close to going over the edge. Amnesty.

TPA TPP - Worked with Ryan to draft legislation, selling out the American worker

Corker Amendment - Making it easier for Obama to bow to Iran

Trump Tax Returns - Demanded Trump release his returns. Why? What difference does it make. Cruz, the guy who wants to abolish the IRS

Sided with BLM rioters in Chicago. Really??

Ben Carson dropping out rumor in Iowa

I’m sure I could list much more. But we get the picture. Everything Cruz has done has been a charade. Sneaky underhanded to benefit Cruz - nobody else!!

WHO ARE YOU CALLING A DEMOCRAT?

You and your ilk spewing that stupid conspiracy vomit, is ridiculous!

I've been here far longer than you have and a CONSERVATIVE long before you could say that word, probably.

Your last sentence is quite true and YOU are stupider than a goose.

We accepted him as a senator because he is constitutionally eligible to be a senator. Cruz is not eligible for the presidency, therefore he left us when he declared his candidacy.

I still think Trump/Cruz or (less likely) Cruz/Trump would be a dynamite ticket.

Totally agree...

I believe the “fight” Cruz put up in the Senate was for causes he knew he wouldn’t win, but it made him look “conservative”, which he espoused...He was setting the stage for this presidential campaign by those actions...
Along comes Trump and throws water on Cruz’s campaign, much like Obama did to Hillary in 2008...

Cruz realized he was in trouble, so he came to realize he needed the help of the GOPe...So his true colors were exposed when he climbed into bed with the “establishment elites”...

THAT is the real Ted Cruz...Just another Washington politician.....

Ted Cruz cares about Ted Cruz. Any man who won’t rush to help a woman the fall off a stage right in front of him won’t help the country. He is a sellout to the GOPe and a liar.

I have not turned on Cruz. I voted for him in the Missouri primary. I think Sen. Cruz is the most consistent, true, articulate, social and constitutional conservative in the race. On the whole, he represents my views on the issues the best.

Look in the mirror and ask yourself why you want a DEM to win the presidency and both Houses of Congress.

Yes, DFU. We should be very happy here at FR, because we have one strong constitutionalist candidate (Cruz), and one anti-oligarchy populist (Trump). I don’t understand this internecine warfare. Particularly after all the duds we’ve had the last few times around - McCain, Romney, etc.

FR appears more interested in a win than they are interested in standing on principle.

FR has been blinded by something that appears too good to be true and has had the same wool that was pulled over Carson and Gingrich's eyes pulled over it's own eyes.

And then there are the Trump Trolls that seem to have their way on FR.

Any person who drinks excessively then falls off the stage is asking for it. Carly deserves no pity for her self-inflicted wounds.
