Why has FR turned on Cruz?
vanity | today | me

Posted on 05/02/2016 2:30:43 PM PDT by bassmaner

I'll keep this vanity short ... Mods: please feel free to pull it if it's inappropriate.

Why have so many here on FR turned on Ted Cruz in such a vicious way?

We cheered when we first heard about Ted taking on the establishment in TX to win the primary in the race to fill Kay Bailey Hutchison's vacated Senate seat, in a bad year for the GOP

We cheered again when Ted exhorted us to 'Stand With Rand' when he offered public support for Rand Paul's filibuster over the NDAA

Once more, we cheered when he stood on the Senate floor and urged his colleagues to join him and use the power of the purse to kill Obamacare

We nodded our collective heads in approval when he openly and correctly called Mitch McConnell a liar

And we jumped for joy when he became the first GOPer to announce a presidential run!

So ... what happened? Yes, Trump announced. But at first, not too many people took him seriously. For the longest time, there seemed to be an unspoken pact between Trump and Cruz, where they occasionally said nice things about each other while bashing the other candidates.

But ever since the voting began and Trump turned on Cruz (starting with the Ben Carson imbroglio in Iowa), a large contingent of FReepers did the same and seem to be echoing RINOs like John Boehner and Peter King in their absolute abhorrence of Cruz.

Yes, we need to choose sides, but for God's sake, can't we send that kind of vitriol in the direction that it belongs, ie. Hildabeast and the 'Rat Party, and knock off the circular firing squad?

You don’t really think those attacking Cruz are conservatives, do you?

Say what, newbee?

Before I knew who Cruz was, I had heard he is a constitutionalist, and I was pleased he was running.

Then as I got to see him and hear him speak, my gut feeling was this was a dangerously unbalanced mental case, and I couldn’t understand how anyone could fall for him. I mean, my danger-hackles go up when I hear him speak.

Then, I saw videos of his two sad-faced daughters clinging to their mother, clearly unhappy, and his older daughters’ chilling repugnance when he tried to kiss her. Yikes.

I think a lot of people have a sixth sense there’s something profoundly wrong with this guy.

If you can’t see why he is unelectable by now then it’s your problem. This whole thread has been why no one wants to vote for him. He is just not trusted, liked or even willing to admit his mistakes.

You may have saving graces but Cruz doesn’t, so how are we to give him the benefit of the doubt when he is nothing more than another lying politician out to get elected so he can create MORE havoc?

The ugliness against Ted Cruz is why I have cut my free republic reading way down. Just what if...the Donald Trump supporters are wrong about what we get from him if he wins. This should have been the easiest election for us to win in years, and we blew it with the vitriol.

Yeah, I know, and I have felt the same way on this and some other things in my life.

Sometimes someone or something just pisses you off, and you want to get even or on top.

But the truth of it is that if in order to defeat the bad guy you become the bad guy, in the end you are the bad guy.

Even if at times we feel justified in taking a questionable action, we may not be justified.

There is only one way to be the good guys, and that is to be the good guys.

Navymom,
For what it's worth, I've been called a "Cruzlim", a "quisling" and an "idiot" for supporting Cruz. And told I wasn't welcome here at FR. For what it's worth.

And by the way, thank you and your child(ren) for serving.

Have yet to discover a substantive claim against Cruz from the Trump trolls. The master bloviator apparently has them bamboozled.

Like I said no one side is pure. And it’s a shame we feel the need to insult and name call. Hope the willingness to forgive and forget is stronger in us because we are conservatives. Now I won’t lie; I’m glad Trump is winning, so it’s easier for me to say we must unite. But that stated, we must unite to keep Bill and Hillary out.

You were kind to thank my son for his service. It’s much appreciated! Take care.

I posted a little essay trying to get us all united.
Nobody listened and the nastiness continues.

Well, to heck with it. Bring it on.

Throughout this thread, I’ve noticed several times name calling on the part of Cruz supporters, aimed at us. Yet, we are hate filled and have made being on FR so difficult? Total break with reality.

Yes, would appear some of the more vitriolic Cruz supporters, like their candidate may have broken with reality.

Frankly, for the record, I have not seen nearly the name calling emanating from Trump supporters.

And the few times I’ve noticed have been after the Trump supporter has been insulted.

This has been very disturbing. Personal battles between the candidates can only help Hillary. Personal battles here only damage this forum.

The vile personal insults on this forum will be long remembered.

After so many years of having Republican presidential candidates who had single digit popularity with Freepers, in 2016 the top two Republicans on FR were the top two Republican contenders. America finally saw things our way!

And this is the result. A ruinous war between the candidates, and a ruinous war between Freepers.

Divided, I think we fall. Hope I'm wrong.
