Why has FR turned on Cruz?
vanity | today | me

Posted on 05/02/2016 2:30:43 PM PDT by bassmaner

I'll keep this vanity short ... Mods: please feel free to pull it if it's inappropriate.

Why have so many here on FR turned on Ted Cruz in such a vicious way?

We cheered when we first heard about Ted taking on the establishment in TX to win the primary in the race to fill Kay Bailey Hutchison's vacated Senate seat, in a bad year for the GOP

We cheered again when Ted exhorted us to 'Stand With Rand' when he offered public support for Rand Paul's filibuster over the NDAA

Once more, we cheered when he stood on the Senate floor and urged his colleagues to join him and use the power of the purse to kill Obamacare

We nodded our collective heads in approval when he openly and correctly called Mitch McConnell a liar

And we jumped for joy when he became the first GOPer to announce a presidential run!

So ... what happened? Yes, Trump announced. But at first, not too many people took him seriously. For the longest time, there seemed to be an unspoken pact between Trump and Cruz, where they occasionally said nice things about each other while bashing the other candidates.

But ever since the voting began and Trump turned on Cruz (starting with the Ben Carson imbroglio in Iowa), a large contingent of FReepers did the same and seem to be echoing RINOs like John Boehner and Peter King in their absolute abhorrence of Cruz.

Yes, we need to choose sides, but for God's sake, can't we send that kind of vitriol in the direction that it belongs, ie. Hildabeast and the 'Rat Party, and knock off the circular firing squad?

A few reasons why Cruz is the worst Republican candidate for president I have seen in my lifetime (in roughly chronological order of discovery):
  1. Phony religious displays. (Is he a real Dominionist or a fake Dominionist? Either would be equally bad.)

  2. Lying about Trump causing the Chicago chaos. (And subsequently lying about everything else—Trump's positions, etc.)

  3. Phony credentials as a reformer. (His colleagues don't hate him because he's a maverick. They hate him because he's an a-hole.)

  4. Delegate poaching. (Absolutely no ethics at all. If he is this desperate to end-run voter intent now, what would he be like in office?)

No he really didn’t. Rand Paul actually was better at this than Ted. Rand stood up when spying on the American people was being debated. And he stood alone for long hours

Ted is all hat and no cattle. A man of honor that he claims to be would not be behaving the way he is right now.

“FR appears more interested in a win than they are interested in standing on principle.”

Translation: I demand you vote for Cruz. You have no right to a brain.

“FR has been blinded by something that appears too good to be true and has had the same wool that was pulled over Carson and Gingrich’s eyes pulled over it’s own eyes.”

Translation: Your choice is based on not your own will, but because you are dumb, unlike those of us that vote for Cruz.

“And then there are the Trump Trolls that seem to have their way on FR.”

Translation: Even though we Cruz people flammed, slandered, brow beat and lambasted Trump supporters to the point where we overdid it, got many Cruz supporters kicked off of FR, decided to attack the site’s owner multiple times, and otherwise demanded full control of this site...

We pretend like people that got turned off by our arrogance are “trolls” and that they “took over” FR.

I haven’t turned on Cruz. I like him. But he has turned out to be a not-very-good candidate. If he is the nominee I will vote for him (but I see the chances of him getting the nomination at around zero: The GOPe hate him as much as they hate Trump, and Cruz just does not have the numbers Trump has).

There is no doubt the candidate bears responsibility for the culture of his event.~ Ted Cruz

First: This was the most upsetting thing I have ever heard!

I had just returned from Chicago rally. I was ambushed by a bunch of the soros-funded thugs because I was leaving a parking garage...I did not have any signage clothing, etc. to indicate why I was on the road...

These people were full of hate, and neither Trump nor I had anything direct bearing on their anger. They were organized an determined to terrorize and inflict damage.

To return home and hear Cruz, who had been at a nice suburban fundraiser, with his smarmy comments about the candidate being responsible for the violence was outrageous...

Why would I support someone with that mindset??

Here is video of my encounter:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFGYgHFMJkA

Second: I don’t like his Globalist leanings...For 2.5
years prior to the campaign, he supported H-1B VISA EXPANSION BY 500%, then during campaign he flip flopped.

Third: He made a deal with McConnell to not help tea party candidates primary incumbents...

Fourth: He voted for numerous Global trade deals.

Fifth: He is no longer acting like an outsider...Since his campaign began, he acts more like a GOPe insider.

He is not acting professional...stress is getting to him. It is now personal, and a professional should not let this happen.

Sixth: This weekend, he called Trump evil that was way out of line...Hillary is the opponent...she is evil, not Trump. Trump is winning and the forerunner. Cruz lectures about rudeness, yet he is the epitome of rude and NASTY. I don’t appreciate his Dad and Beck trying to make this a Biblical issue.

Seventh: When asked NINE TIMES by Todd if he would support the nominee, he obfuscated. He refused to state he would support the nominee if it is Trump...He is going back on his word. Remember he said his word is his bond...

So what good is his word???

Free Republic has not turned on Cruz. As we have gotten to know him, clearly he is not the man many of us thought he was.

I observed that a lot of people on FR hated Cruz the first time he publicly mentioned Jesus. From that point on they found reasons to hate him. Mainly Catholics and atheists.

Unquote

Wow, you can look in peoples hearts and see what they are thinking. I seem to recall that Jesus says something about that, kind of like we mortals are not to judge other folks state of grace, but look to our own salvation.

Now I know some folks who found his references to Jesus off putting...because it was hypocrisy. If a person is a devote Christian, they really rally do not want to bear false witness....which Ted seems to have no problem doing.

Example, out of his won mouth.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI-SGrum8lQ

The truth is he did it to himself. A lot of devout people see his as a charlatan. They may be wrong, but Cruz’s words give credulence to that interpretation.

As long as you guys are too stupid to STOP using those stupid names, no one will pay you any attention.

"To win at any cost."

That is EXACTLY what I want when, whoever, runs against Billery... Win at any cost, WHAT-SO-EVER..!!!

To lose would be ABOSOLUTELY unacceptable....

That's not just my opinion but the opinion of all who love America and despise the leftist who are trying to destroy our nation.......

I actually had not considered what Boehner’s motives were in saying such a thing. I couldn’t care less what he says. But, I cannot count the times I have read a comment by someone here, obviously anti-Cruz, that repeats what Boehner said because they believe him to be telling the truth about Cruz. Who knows, maybe Boehner is telling the truth about Cruz, but I am not the type of person that clutches at what a disreputable and dishonorable person says just because it happens to be what I want to believe.

"Why have so many here on FR turned on Ted Cruz in such a vicious way?"

The "shaming mailer" is the beginning for me. I hate that kind of stuff because my elderly parents were always getting crap like that in the mail from shady sources and it would cause much needless drama and worry.

Then the Ben Carson flap was bush league BS. And finally Ted Siding with the Chicago thugs was the final straw. It all turned my stomach. And finding out later he waited until recently to reveal his Canadian citizenship jusr made it feel to me Ted is someone not to trust at all with that much power.

The garbage like calling Cruz “a total scumbag” is ruining Free Republic. I am guessing many (not all) of the Trump supporters posting stupid things don’t even support FR. Just a guess.

Trump was far from my first choice. I'll vote for him to try and stop Hillary but it will take a titanium nose clamp to make it possible.

We need a smaller, weaker federal government and a smaller, weaker presidency......neither of which we are likely to get in the near future.

Basically, we’ve all been stating our whys and wheres for a long time. All over FR. I have grown to dislike Sen Cruz and if I lived in Texas would work for a primary opponent against him. Because:

1. Iowa and Dr. Ben Carson
2. Lying, constantly
3. Attempting to use every dirty trick in the book to derail Donald Trump
4. Colorado
5. His Christian values vs. how he runs his campaign
6. His inability to see that he had over a 50% chance to be Trump’s VP and pissed it all away for ambition
7. Glenn Beck
8. Mitt Romney
9. His silence on what a friendly PAC did to Meliana Trump in Utah

There is more, but this is basically the main issues that I have with the Senator. Had he conducted himself as a Constitutional Christian Conservative during this primary instead of an ambitious politician who lies and parses words, my feelings would be completely different.
