Exactly. This buy out is more about Amazon trying to get in to the grocery delivery market and compete against those already in the grocery delivery market like Blue Apron. Google tried to get in on it, but I think Amazon is more suited for it because they already have a delivery mechanism in place that actually works. Several months ago when Amazon introduced Amazon Fresh to NYC, Cavuto tested it out on his FBN show and his grocery bags were delivered right to his news desk in under 30 minutes.

I seriously doubt Amazon is going to sell electronics and books in those brick and mortar stores. Amazon has been looking at ways to bring their Amazon Pantry and Amazon Grocery Delivery sites closer to the people.

I’d bet my house Amazon will sell their branded electronics in Whole Amazon or whatever they will call it. They will want to attract the free spending Whole Paycheck customers to their other products no doubt.

LOL

We have a few stores like that in the “nice” suburb.

My bride likes to pull in with her minivan, with the NRA stickers, and watch the aging boomers glare. Not very kid friendly, and the clerk once told her “We don’t stock diapers you know!”.

She goes in, grabs a few samples, and buys a dozen eggs, just to annoy the people.

My bride may be evil, but I love her for it.

Perfect setup for the Trump Administration to send a message . . . Jeff Bezos buys the Washington Post personally . . . time for the FTC to investigate this. And investigate, and investigate.

Oh, and order an environmental impact study for ten years.

Amazon runs a scam where they put a higher priced item in the “buy box” on the item page and then a tiny link below to the actual lowest price below. I’ve seen books priced at $200 in the “buy box” and then a tiny link below for the EXACT same book for $1. Often times the higher priced book is a “drop shipper” who doesn’t even have physical inventory. Total scam.

I’m not impressed with Amazon’s business ethics at all. Eventually that will catch up with them, guaranteed.

I doubt it. They’re already running circles around Best Buy and Walmart on that front. Online shoppers don’t want to place an order online and then have to drive down to some brick and mortar place to pick up their item. They want it delivered right to their door. At the end of the day, the customer is looking for convenience.

Interestingly enough though, I’ve got 2 power strips, 4 gold plated Cat6 ethernet cables and 3 gold plated HDMI cables, all of which are Amazon Basic items that cost less than $10 each and they actually do work.

Amazon is looking to expand their online grocery business. It sounds like they want Whole Foods for the existing business, which is true to some extent. It is more for improving their own infrastructure so they can do the online groceries more efficiently. You will be able to buy Trix at the new Whole Foods.

Whole Foods has been losing profitability because they are no longer the only option for quality organics. Living off the high margins is over.

“I don’t think this is a good move by WF.”

If you are the owner of $1,000 of WF you are now getting $1,245 ($1,000 x $13.7/$11.0) before taxes.

I think I know what you mean though. Amazon shouldn’t be worth what it is (perhaps WF either) and will tank.

Nearest Whole Foods is 3 hours away. I prefer Trader Joe’s to Whole Foods, they are not as large as WFs, but are certainly more value oriented.

In addition Aldis is hard to beat for overall value.

The meats and their cheese selection are the only reason we visit WH in Fort Lauderdale.

Sorry, we don’t seem to be on the same page. I’m talking about a cell phone kiosk. Not an entire best buy store clone.

How many square feet is a Whole Foods? Plenty of room for Amazon phones, tablets, accessories, etc. Electronics is how Amazon hooks in customers online. There is no chance they invest $14 billion in retail stores and don’t stock the place with Amazon branded electronics and accessories.

Whole Foods is in trouble. All of the big stores now offer organic food at considerably lower prices.

Another Germany company like Aldi, Lidl, is opening a bunch of stores now. If you like Aldi you should check them out.

Aldi and it’s clones are going to kill off all but the strongest grocers, IMO. Here in Florida soon we will have one traditional grocery store (Publix) most likely. Winn-Dixie is on life support in my area. Food Lion is already gone. Won’t be long until it’s Publix, Aldi, Dollar Stores and Walmart for food.

“The atmosphere and customer service are the pits although I doubt Amazon can do much about that.”

Decades ago, WF had a great store in Monterey. They had contracts with the local farmers and had wonderful produce. They contracted with local professional fishers and ranchers.

They had great and fresh food and good people. They constantly ran seminars on how to prepare and cook their good goods.

They started opening stores in the North Bay area. Their employees were either bitching about working there or felt they were above the customers.

Their Whole Paycheck pricing and the above stopped us from going there.

Last but not least, daily there were scuzzy left wing hippies with clipboards outside by the exits trying to get us to sign a petition to raise our taxes.

So our local WF became a no go zone for us and most of our friends.

I imagine that the newspaper rack in our local Whole Foods will now feature Bezos’ Washington Post (the house organ of the CIA), even though we are not near DC.

PHOOEY, PHOOEY, and PHOOEY again!!!!

I like Whole Foods. I remember back in the early 1980s when they bought an old grocery store about 4 blocks from my house - it was the second one built in the Dallas area and probably the fifth store they opened outside Austin. They put these enormous pieces of fruit on the roof that looked pretty goofy. Being 4 blocks away was nice. I went there for vitamins and some food but not all. A couple of years ago they moved to a new location which is 4 miles away and whole new crowd shows up. I don’t know many people who do their primary shopping there because they don’t have everything a regular grocery store has. Who is going to pay a huge price for wax paper? I hope Bezos does not screw it all up.

I love Whole Foods meat dept. They source their meat so you know and can visit which farm. It is unhealthy to eat sick animals from big feedlots. There is no saving money when you are making yourself sick doing so.

But I don’t want one person to control everything. I am glad we have a free country where a Bezos can achieve what he’s achieved, but I fear what he is doing.

I only go there if I need something I cannot get anywhere else, like a few supplements, dry soybeans and flaxseed oil. It is rare that I need to go there. I do not like to patronize a business that won’t allow me to carry concealed in the store. Also, I hate being around the leftist types that shop there or the tattooed cashiers.

Whole Foods guy is a libertarian, and often goes against the leftist grain.
