[NFL] Owners fret over whether fans will make good on threats to flee [ed]
NBC Sports ^ | September 29, 2017 | Mike Florio

Football fans routinely do plenty of huffing and puffing, but they rarely blow the house down. This time around, the NFL worries about the house getting blown down. Every year, bad teams emerge and their fans (in most non-California instances) still support them. And even if any given season (or, in Cleveland, every given season) becomes lost, a reset to 0-0 is always less than four months away. For true fans, the tattoo on their soul is permanent, and disowning a favorite team is every bit as hard as disowning a child. But this thing could be different. A league that has openly pandered to the military and the flag (and, in turn, to those who would react favorably to pandering to the military and the flag) now finds itself caught between a movement that has, after 13 months of simmering, exploded into a full boil that threatens to hit the league where it hurts the most.

Even my 6yo grandson thought they were being rude.
Never going to watch football again in this home.
I wait and see what the Hockey league does, now.

Exactly. If we notice, they have been concocting these little “what will we do” memes so that people will do that one click that is counted as watching.

Ignore them.

So, Mike Florio, respecting the military and the flag is “pandering”?

Yeah, you and the horse you rode in on.

When we take down the NFL, it will take down the worthless sports media with them.

Well it is a big thing to change a lifestyle. I have chosen, after being a follower since about 1964, to no longer have anything to do with the No Flag Love League.

I have been a Miami Dolphin fan since they started in 1966. I have hosted super bowl parties in my home ... but no more.

Some things which have brought this to a head:

1. I totally disagree with cities and counties using tax money to pay for billionaire’s arenas.
2, I disagree with teams that paid for stadiums having their team yanked away from them on an owner’s whim. (Houston Oilers, Baltimore Colts, LA Rams, St Louis Rams, St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland Raiders, LA Raiders, SD Chargers and so on.)
3. Replay has become ridiculous ... the umps and refs can no longer be relied on for a call ... we need to review and re-review, ad nauseum.
4. We go to commercial. Then there is a kick-off. THEN, ANOTHER COMMERCIAL! Enough said.
5. Pink shoes and armbands.
6. Players who are thugs to women and others ... and are treated like they’re victims.
7. And now ... the final straw. Not honoring the flag, pledge or anthem, for some reason that they can’t even articulate (at least, beyond “because of Trump”)

So, enough is enough! And to whatever degree possible, I will avoid doing business with the major sponsors.

I doubt that I will have any real effect on a multi-billion dollar business, but I feel better having taken this stand.

They don't get that the kneeling Anthem protest is not the only issue. It's simply the straw that broke the camel's back. I think resentment toward the league has been growing for some time.

The rules committee has legislated the fun out of the game. The networks have somehow decided that NFL games are appropriate places for their commentators to wax politic (Anyone want Bob Costas' opinion?). Domestic violence. Criminal acts the perp just walks from with a slap on the wrist. There have been NFL millionaires involved in drug trafficking!! Why??

On the field, the quality of play has gone down, but the showboating and "celebrations" are at an all time high. Catch a pass for a first down? Jump up, get in the defender's face, and thrust your arm forward to signal that first down. Make sure EVERYONE sees you. Get a sack? Make sure you do your fist pump and raise your arms in the air. Make sure EVERYONE sees you. Disrespecting coaches on the sideline.

Hundreds of dollars for tickets in the after market. No chance of getting reasonably priced Super Bowl tickets. The price of anything at the stadium, including just freakin' parking.

Contract holdouts. Training camp holdouts. Injuries because you didn't go to training camp. Petulant interviews. These have all been going on for YEARS.

And NOW, you want to protest the playing of the National Anthem because of "injustice" or "police brutality against blacks" or "team unity".

FUNFL!

69 years as an Eagles fan

Listened on the radio in 48 and 49 when they won the NFL titles

Went to preseason camp at Hershey and Albright and PMC

Love of the Eagles has been ingrained in my DNA

But these last 2 weeks were the proverbial straw

Owner Tose has allowed Bleeping Malcom Jenkins to kneel for 2 seasons

And the rest of the league is just as bad

Its over

The NFL doesn’t understand that they posed an important question. “What matters more to you, our entertainment, or the country - the very concept of the United States?”

I was once a Jets fan, and a growing Chiefs fan. No more. I have no need of any of them. The closest I get to the NFL these days is to read about the worries they have over peeing on the flag and their fans.

My hope is that lots of people who give up on the NFL and other pro sports come around to taking up rifle and pistol shooting as a hobby... even airgun shooting, which has finally come of age in the US.

It would irritate the left to no end.

And now it comes out that Kaepernick supports cop killers.
I suspect as more and more fans leave, the NFL owners and players are going to wonder why they supported the guy in the first place.

You are not alone. Together, we have an effect. This is not a "boycott". This is pissed off fans giving up on an entertainment industry.

Note the way the article ends...happily ever after...everybody will kiss and make up...

Wrong!

(at least not until Goodell is fired and some thugs are fired with him....)

This can’t resolve easily. The biggest enemy of the stadium experience is teevee technology. High def gives the home viewer better seats than the paying crowd. No bathroom lines, cheap beer, soda and wine . . . . And if you’re eating, you can add surf and turf all around for less than your all-in stadium price. To top it off, once the game is over, you’re already home, free to tackle the honey-do list or any number of other weekend events.

Life is more complicated that that--and you have a lot more power than you think.

Do what is right and it is amazing how much power you gain.

In short, Trump very successfully trolled the NFL into revealing openly their Leftist stance. And given that the majority of the fan base of the NFL is Conservative, the NFL is about to suffer a Target Corporation-style financial and PR black eye that could take a long time to recover from (like starting with Roger Goodell leaving the Commissioner's office).

STP league: Screw the Pooch

JTS league: Jump the Shark

Bye, bye you anti-American, fan-despising, arrogant, money-grubbing losers. Bye, bye. No one is “fleeing”, they are merely waking up to reality and tasking appropriate action. Pox on you.
