Meghan Markle is descended from Scottish hero Robert the Bruce, it has emerged.
The royal bride-to-be can trace her family back to the Scottish king who won independence from England at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314.
The link between royal families seven centuries apart is revealed in Andrew Morton's new book Hollywood Princess, according to The Sun.
Mr Morton said: 'It is possible to trace a direct line through 25 generations to Robert I of Scotland, perhaps the most colourful of all Scottish kings.

There was a considerable amount of time between Scotch-Irish indentured servants being transported to Virginia and the existence of Tennessee, which was split off from the state of North Carolina in 1796. There were settlers there illegally according to the British in the Watauga Settlement during the Revolutionary War, but it was North Carolina at that time.
After years studying my genealogy I found that I am also descended from Robert the Bruce, through my father’s line. I suspect a lot of us who have pilgrim ancestors can say the same.
Funny how, if someone gains ANY notoriety, they seem to find a link to a famous or historic forefather, even Hussein 0bama who has no idea who sired him and does not even have proof that Stanley spawned him.
As portrayed in "Braveheart". But that film was not very historically accurate.
You’re off by one child.
Grocery store check out rag has it Meghan is having twins.
OUCH!
I wonder if it’s on her black side or her jewish side.
Its the commoners who look these things up.
The Royals are obsessed with royal blood. Thats why so many of them have married their cousins and a hell of a lot of times their first cousins.
The serfs still worship these inbreds.
"You are Meghan, Queen of Scots?"
"I am!"
*Punch* "OW!" *Hit* "Ow!".........
(...and now Radio Four will explode!)
If you have any ancestors who lived in Massachusetts in the 1600's or 1700's you are even more likely to be a Mayflower descendant. Very few people lived in the colonies and the families intermarried. It doesn't mean you're descended from royalty though, 20% of the passengers on the Mayflower were indentured servants.
Ummm, IF she has The Bruce as an ancestor it ISN’T on her mother’s side. So Caucasian lineage beats African. Think they’ll get into that side of the family??
On her Jewish side she might be descended from Lenny Bruce.
Royals became inbred marrying cousins and such—because they were (until the 20th Century) required to. They also normally didn’t associate with anyone but their “social equals”...not by choice...but again, as that was required of them, so the only people they knew were other nobility.
Ordinary people have wanted royals, as much or more...as royals wanted to stay royals... Otherwise the wildly popular fascination with royals—by “commoners,” wouldn’t exist.
In the UK too, it works quite well, as the Prime Minister can go on and do the business of State, without nearly the popular attention that any US President must endure—because the British (figure)head of State & family, with all their wealth and pomp, the royals, garner most of the attention.
No Prime Minister, for example, has ever gotten the Messiah-like worship from Media & Entertainment...as Mr. 0 did....and that works well for them.
The US on the other-hand, wraps our head of state and figurehead into one person, and that causes lots of problems—both in over-admiration by popular Media (Obama) and over-the-top criticism by popular Media(Trump), interfering with the ability to govern well.
Borscht, cabbage, and vodka... highly combustible...
My aunt was in to the genealogy thing, and traced us back to some royalty — can’t recall who/what/when.
I’m more proud of my ancestor, Edward Wightman, who was the last martyr to be burned at the stake in England in 1612. Many of our family went to Litchfield in the UK for the 400th anniversary of the event, which the town celebrates.
Two of his “crimes”: (1) He was an Anabaptist. (2) He refused to baptize his babies. (They were baptized when they were older if/when they made their own decisions to be saved).
There was a hiccup. On his execution day, he was told that if he renounced his beliefs and would go along with the king, he could go free. He renounced. Two weeks later he was to sign the official denial, and then wouldn’t do it. So...
“... Wightman’s condemnation was renewed and he was taken again to ‘Market Square’, where he was again chained to the stake. This time there wasn’t a hint of wanting to recant. Edward Wightman was burned alive on the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter, April 11, 1612.”
Well who is she related to on the other side of her family?
Every American President up to and including Obama, except for Van Buren (all Dutch), was descended from King John of England. Trump probably is too, and Hillary, and Ted Cruz, maybe not Rubio. Them old timey people have TONS of ancestors.
Going even back further, I’m personally descended from Charlemagne, along with, according to sources, nearly everyone on Earth with any European blood.
Is your new screenname gonna be Impemagne ?
