Wanna know where the ACLU gets all of its funding? I’ve compiled a few snipits here from around the net on all the info I could find. Of course the major money comes from large liberal organizations donating. It is also no suprise the ACLU wants to keep its budget very secret from the general public. Here is a little bit of what I’ve found.
In the year 2001, membership contributions totaled $12.5 million. The ACLU will not tell us who their members are, but they will sell their membership lists to other nonprofit organizations. So much for protecting privacy. To be fair, you can tell the ACLU not to give your name out, but that option is not widely publicized.
If you go take a look at their donation page at their site which I refuse to link to, you will see a tiny little box stuffed in the corner that lets you opt out of having your personal information sent to other liberal non-profit groups.
The majority of the ACLU’s money comes from foundations. For example, the Ford Foundation has given them more than $14 million. The Open Society Institute, headed by billionaire George Soros, has given $2 million.
In October of 2004, the ACLU turned down $1.15 million in funding from two of it’s most generous and loyal contributors, the Ford and Rockefeller foundations, saying new anti-terrorism restrictions demanded by the institutions make it unable to accept their funds.
“The Ford Foundation now bars recipients of its funds from engaging in any activity that “promotes violence, terrorism, bigotry, or the destruction of any state.”
The Rockefeller Foundation’s provisions state that recipients of its funds may not “directly or indirectly engage in, promote, or support other organizations or individuals who engage in or promote terrorist activity.”

Let me know if you would like to join my ACLU ping list
On top of that the ACLU picks up millions in lawyers fees against communities where there are liberal judges who constantly side with the ACLU and awards them fees which Congress authorizes them to do.
For some reason, the ACLU sent me a solicitation last year. Included was a Business Reply (postage paid) envelope.
I gleefully sent them as much junk mail as their business reply envelope would hold, making sure that my name appeared on none of it. (After all, I want the solicitations to keep coming.) Some of what I sent them was from Coral Ridge Ministries -- an ardent foe of the ACLU -- and the NRA.
Sadly, I've yet to receive another solicitation. Maybe they decided whatever mailing list they rented didn't bring in the donations they'd hoped for.

I went to the Ford Foundation website and found this interesting tidbit: Created with gifts and bequests by Henry and Edsel Ford, the Foundation is an independent organization, with its own board, and is entirely separate from the Ford Motor Company. I understand that it is separate from FMC but is it still being sustained and gifted by FMC or its founders? If I buy a Ford car, does that provide some portion of funds that ultimately end up in the Ford Foundation? If so, I would think that would be a good reason to look for somewhere else to buy a car. Mind you, a serious scrutiny of all the major manufacturers likely will find similar things I disagree with as far as how money gets spent.
I'm sure you will want a link to this. Here are the particulars: The American Civil Rights Unions is a legal charity that does its best to expose and counteract the harm that the ACLU does in our society and courtrooms. An indication of its approach is that former Judge Robert and former Attorney General Edwin Meese are among those on its Board of Advisors.
The ACRU's website has a subpage entitled "ACLU-Watch." I write those reviews of (mostly) Supreme Court cases. My latest column is a lengthy comparison of the Kentucky and Texas cases issued 27 June, 2005, in which a sharply divided Court disapproved the Ten Commandments in two Kentucky courthouses, but approved them on the grounds of the Texas State Capitol. All who are interested can find six years of my work by going to this website, and clicking on "ACLU-Watch." http://wwww.civilrightsunion.com
This is a heavy dose of law, and not for the faint of heart. However, I think a few Freepers will find it interesting.

Those who contribute money to public radio or television end up on the mailing list for far leftist organizations including Democrat political campaigns. This is another example of the misuse of public funds by Democrat and other leftist organizations.
Yes sir, I have a link to you, which I erroneously labeled Civil Rights Union instead of American Civil Rights Union. I will fix it.
